BULLETIN – June 4, 2025

President Jon Robb opened the meeting, Bill Rickert led us in the Pledge, Rich Babjak gave the prayer, and Song Meister Dennis Kratohwil reminded us of the Summer of 1967 with a rendition of the Doors hit: “C’mon Baby Light my Fire”. Unfortunately, the intro by Dennis was longer than the song!
BRAGS:
-Jon Robb bragged about spending a week in Maui.
-Tom Gore had 2 brags. He just returned from a visit to Croatia where he did a bike trip. He also related that his daughter in law had a premature baby who spent 60 days at Northwestern Hospital and was just released and sent home. Tom said the staff gave the baby a great sendoff!
-Ellen young bragged that she is going to New York City to see her grandson who is turning 2.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-Rotary Anniversaries: Dave Potts – 36 years, Scott Hezner – 35 years, John Blair – 11 years, Patricia Bleck – 7 years, Mary Cole – 3 years, Jim Curtis – 3 years, Charles Lesser – 1 year. The Club database needs updating.
-Patricia Bleck reported that we were a big help with the Heart of the City community service project.
-We need more volunteers to march in the Libertyville Parade. We sponsor Mainstreet, Lunch in the Park, and the Farmer’s Market.
-Charitable applications are on our website. We hope to distribute checks in July.
-Our year end meeting is June 25th at Tom Zengler’s house at 5 pm.
-Don’t forget to make donations to the Rotary Foundation and Polio Plus before June 30th to get it in this Rotary year. Polio Plus donations receive a 4-times match!
-Our Assistant District Governor Melvina Lube is leaving her post after 4 years. She said our Club has always been very welcoming.
FUN & FROLICS:
Rick Mittelman entertained us with a series of riddles.
PROGRAM:
Today’s program was Linda Ludke, a storyteller. Linda spent several years at the Butterfield School as Learning Center Director. She practiced storytelling first with her daughter and then with the kids at Butterfield. She practiced with different voices to make the stories more real. We are all storytellers when we tell tales about our life. There is no stronger connection.
Stories can pass on values and traditions from generation to generation. They help us to provide content for our lives and to act. There is story telling festival event in Spring Grove every year. It is a multiday event with storytelling classes. It was started in 2002 by Lisa Duman, a Holocaust survivor. The festival ceased operations in 2016 due to dwindling attendance. It was revived in 2022. There is a program around Halloween to tell ghost stories. The storytellers dress in costumes. The group can be found at Springgrovestorytellers.com.
FOOD PANTRY:
We collected $275 for the Food Pantry.
RAFFLE:

-Progressive: $765 (25 cards). Dennis Kratohwil drew the 3 of spades. ROLLOVER!
