Tucker Olson opened the meeting this week, and Dan Lutter led us in singing "If I Only Have a Brain."  Most of us had trouble remembering the words, but a lot of our members had an easy time identifying with the sentiment.  

 

Former member Bruce Rodman flew in from Colorado to have breakfast with us this week. 

 

Doug Fendon announced that the club will have a float in the Libertyville Days Parade on Saturday June 16  this year.  We need riders who are willing to take a chance that they will not be risking life and limb with Doug at the wheel.

 

Steve Risley reminded us to try to get any donations you are making to the Rotary Foundation in before June 30.  This is the end of the Rotary year, and how much our club contributes will determine how eligible we are for matching grants.

 

Larry Neal took a quick survey, and after determining that there would be sufficient interest in a Wednesday evening club pistol shooting event this summer, he will attempt to

organize one, 

 

Tom Miller informs us that Northshore Wine Beer Cigar and Food Festival raffle tickets are

selling like hot cakes, and you should buy yours before they run out.

 

Doug Fendon reminded us that Mother’s Trust golf outing will be held on Friday June 15 at Pine Meadows, and he says he has some openings in his foursome.

 

Teri Dreher is still hoping for another couple from our club to join in her excursion to South

Africa.

 

Our installation dinner will be on the evening of June 27 at White Deer Run. There will be no morning meeting that day, but golf will be available in the afternoon.

 

Next Tuesday June 12 there will be a club board meeting at 5:30 p.m. in Mickey Finns 

 

This week we had the privilege of inducting Patricia Bleck as the newest member of the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club.  With Tom Miller as her sponsor Patricia has now joined 1,200,000 Rotarians world wide, as we pursue our goal of service above self.

Patricia lives in Libertyville with her husband.  They have four children, two of whom are grown, and two of whom are still at home. She is the owner of Bleck Consulting, which advises businesses in social networking and blogging. 
    
BRAGS:

Sam Rinella bragged that Wednesday would have been his father’s ninetieth birthday and that his second grandson, Thor Haugen, has just turned four months old.  Sam missed out on bragging about the birth, because he was on leave at the time.

 

Tom Zengeler bragged about his daughter Laura who is going to Vassar College and his son Andrew who won three awards when he graduated from eighth grade. 

 

Bill Rickert bragged on behalf of the soldiers participating in the D Day Invasion seventy-four years ago, and Tucker Olson added that his wife’s uncle was wounded in that battle. 

 

Doug Fendon mentioned that he had seen Ken Chapin, who says hello to everyone and is hoping to join us at the installation dinner.

 

Bill Taranowski bragged that his children are all out of school, and his son won a big prize from the Continental Math League. 
 
FUN AND FROLICS:

Tom Zengeler presided over fun and frolics this week, which included a display of fascinating (and according to Scott Hezner, very valuable) antic dry cleaning equipment.  Tom asked a number of people to explain how dry cleaning worked and how the equipment was used.  We received some enthusiastic and very educational reports on the subject, but it would perhaps have been even more educational, if there had been on the spot fact checking, so we could distinguish which reports were true and which ones were made up by nervous Rotarians under pressure to perform in front of their peers.  
 
PROGRAM: 

Our program this week was presented by Nick Sauer, Illinois State Representative for the 26th District.  Nick is from Barrington and was first elected to the legislature in 2016.  He serves on the Human Services Committee and the Commerce Committee, and he is very proud of the fact that for the first time in a couple of decades the legislature passed a budget ahead of schedule this year, which he considers bipartisan and which cuts a billion dollars from prior year spending.

 

Mr. Sauer is passionate about improving foster care service in Illinois, which he believes is far too slow in handling the adoption process, and in revising workers comp, which he believes is too expensive. He says he is for making children safer from gun violence in schools, but he has voted against legislation that would have protected children by making guns harder to obtain by those who want to use them.  He mentioned a desire to save money on public pension expenses, but he was not too clear, on how he planned to move in that direction.

 

Carol August had too spin the wheel for allowing her phone to ring during the meeting. In lieu of paying a $10.00 fine, she will attend the next board meeting,  which may actually give her the privilege of watching history in the making.   It will be Tucker’s last board meeting as president, and according to some very reliable but leaky sources, he will be using the occasion to pardon himself no handed, while standing on one foot.  

 

RAFFLE: 

Bill Rickert  won our weekly raffle prize of $43.00.  Dennis Kratowhil then tried to win the progressive pot of $278.00, but even though there were only 44 cards left he failed to pull the right one.   Sometimes life is just not fair.
