Call to Order: Newly installed Club President Tom Zengeler called the Zoom meeting to order and we immediately went to small group breakout sessions for 10 minutes.   We recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and Doug Fendon gave the prayer.  The song was deferred to the end of the meeting.

-Dave Ritland said his long stint as foreman of a Grand Jury is over.  The jury heard 528 cases.

 

-Doug Fendon bought a home in Scottsdale, AZ for a winter getaway.  He also said his stepdaughter who lived in California the past 6 years, was hired via video to be a social media director.

 

-Tom Zengeler announced plans for returning to Lambs Farm for our meetings effective July 8^th at 7:30-8:30am.  Breakfast will be banquet style, tables will be spread out with seating limited per table, and the wait staff will bring food to us rather than members going through a buffet line. 

 

-The club fundraising committee has been hard at work planning a wine tasting on either August 29^th or September 12^th.  They are also planning an event at the North Shore Gun Club.

 

-Scott Hezner asked “What’s Happening Rotary” as far as having regular meetings again.  Kevin Stevens, Assistant District Commissioner indicated response is a mixed bag, from no interest to some interest.  He said it is a personal responsibility to insure one’s own safety with the coronavirus pandemic, and it is up to the club to be sensitive to those who do not wish to be in contact with others.  It should strictly be an option for open meetings, but look forward to continuing Zoom.  Have masks.  Tucker Olson stated the risks are high for some people.  

 

-Doug Fendon said the golf league will play at Countryside Traditions next Monday (July 13^th).

 

Jennifer Johnson, new Executive Director of Mainstreet Libertyville, gave an overview of the organization and what they do.  She has been involved with Rotary for many years and was glad to talk to our group.  She has been a Libertyville resident for 20 years and a Mainstreet volunteer.  The organization was formed in 1989 when a group of volunteers drafted a vision for the community.  Libertyville is one of 19 recognized communities in Illinois who have a Mainstreet organization.  Mainstreet Libertyville typically sponsors 50 days of community events yearly, with the purpose of supporting Libertyville businesses.  With the coronavirus pandemic, the events have been cancelled except for Farmer’s Market.  Instead the organization has assisted restaurants in doing on-line orders.  They’ve encouraged a stronger on-line presence and done virtual-First Fridays.   Now that restrictions have been reduced, they’ve worked with owners to do safe and efficient outdoor dining spaces.  The organization  conducted a raffle with winnings going to participating businesses.  For every $100 donated, $68 stays in the community, i.e., support local.  Mainstreet Libertyville continues to welcome new members.   

 

Dennis Kratohwil did a rock, paper, scissors game and Pat Hart was the winner.
