Tom Zengler opened the meeting, Tom Miller gave the Pledge and Seb Karasu led us in prayer.

BRAGS:

-Polly Grover’s daughter received her MBA degree Summa Cum Laude.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

-Tom Zengler read us the Rotary Minute.

-The remarkable People Variety Show Fundraiser is 2/27.

-Silent auction website is up and live. We have a number of good auction items.

-We have 14 bottles for the wine cellar so far.

-We can buy tickets on line. 106 tickets sold so far. Get food order in by next Wednesday.

-Diana told us that the Service Partners Group is having a virtual beer tasting event 3/15. A beer sampler goes for $35. Tickets are available on Bid Pal.

FUN & FROLICS:

-Polly Grover entertained us with a Presidential quiz.

PROGRAM:

Our program today was Lauren Marks talking about the District 70 School Board. Lauren is a candidate for District 70 Board. She is a speech therapist and pathologist with degrees from Wisconsin and Marquette. She has worked in many schools and now works in the Lake Forest system dealing with kids in the autism spectrum.

She is running as an advocate for kids. During the pandemic District 70 has been remote learning. 80% of parents want kids back in school. She says District 70 has a thin curriculum with some weak teachers. They work 40 minutes per week. The Superintendent remains remote. The board recently voted 5 to 2 to remain remote. She is part of a group called LIPS – Libertyville for in person schooling.  Kids should be in school.

Lauren’s son has ADHD. He can’t sit at a computer for 6 hours a day. She is sending her kids to a Montessori  School. Oak Grove has been at 5 hours per day in school since August. St Joseph School is open but many can’t afford tuition. She says people are moving out of Libertyville because of schools. District 70 is only rated 5 out of 10. She says: “ The community has been put on mute.”
