BULLETIN – February 25, 2026

President Tom Gore rang the bell, Bob Zamor gave the Pledge, and Greeter Scott Hezner led us in prayer. No one volunteered to do a song! (when are you coming back, Dennis?)

 

-Bill Taranowski bragged about his daughter spending a gap year in Madrid teaching English and finding out that she has been accepted at Boston College for a Masters in Mental Health Counseling.

-Jim Laverdiere survived a car crash that totaled his vehicle and bragged that he has a new car compliments of Allstate Insurance.

- Sheb Karasu bragged that she is engaged (!) and on a recent trip to Washinton D.C. she attended a trade conference where she met President Trump.

-Elliot Pinsel announced that both of his sons are following in the legal profession.  One already working in a felony division and the other in school.

-Tom Gore recently told us he was in Caracas and Puerta Vallarta, just before violence occurred in both locations.  We would all do well to find where Tom is traveling next!         Tom also bragged that his 3 kids attend schools whose basketball teams are in the top 10; it will be an interesting March Madness in the Gore household

 

-Howard Jaffe told us that we have sold 434 tickets and hopes we can sell 200 more tickets before March 7^th. He reminded us that if each member can sell 4 tickets, we can sell out.  We need everyone to participate to make this a successful event.  Purchased tickets will be available for pick-up this coming Friday at Mickey Finn’s as well as Club meetings starting today.  The silent auction will go live on Friday and will close at noon the day after the event, so get your auction items to Rich Schoeneman!   Howard is looking for a volunteer to staff Will Call at LHS from 12pm-3pm on the day of the event, as well as another volunteer from 3:30 until showtime for WILL CALL and to help folks get to the theatre from the back lot of LHS.  Finally…..BUY YOUR RAFFLE TICKETS!!

 

Sheb had us all stand up and then sit depending on our answer to questions that she posed. The questions seemed to prefer folks that were busier in retirement than when working.  Since this author could not remember what he did yesterday, much less twenty years ago, he sat down in the first “tranche”.

 

Today’s program was given Jason Kern, the Executive Director of LakeCom.  The organization and facility were 10 years in the making and consolidated 6 ETSBs, 7 communications centers and serves 30 police and fire departments.  Currently, this is the largest 911 consolidation in the State, and the facility known as the ROC (Regional Operations & Communications Center) is located in Libertyville.  The $53 million facility houses 34 dispatch positions with 6 located underground in a storm shelter and has back up capabilities in Glenview and Arlington Heights with additional plans for a back-up facility in Lake Zurich.  The ROC has Next Gen 911 which enables easier transfer of calls to other locations and facilities as well as the ability to receive calls via text.

 

-Daily $32 was won by Tucker Olson, after Elliot’s number was pulled in abstentia, and it was determined that he would go for the cards ;)
