BULLETIN – May 4, 2022

Tom Miller gave the pledge, Diana Taylor led us in prayer, and Dennis Kratohwil led us in singing an abbreviated version of Smile from Zoom. Ron Lapins immediately wheeled himself for suggesting that we ask Dennis for a song.
 
BRAGS:
-Steve Risley’s daughter is graduating Cum Laude from college, and he made his last tuition payment!
 
-Dave Ritland and his wife had dinner at Seb Karasu’s house and said it was magnificent! He bid on the dinner as part of the fundraiser.
 
FOUNDATION MINUTE:
-What can your $100 contribution to the foundation do? It can provide textbooks, hearing aids, cataract operations, and blankets to needy people all over the world.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-Rotary anniversaries: Tim Klein 34 yrs., Dennis Kratohwil 33 yrs., Bob Zamor 26 yrs., Carol August and Robin O’Connor 5 yrs. each.
 
-Some club members have expressed interest in being guardians on Honor Flights. Let Rich know if you are interested.
 
-We are passing the hat for the Food Pantry today. $245 raised.
 
-The by-laws have been updated. The vote to approve was unanimous.
 
-The next board meeting is 5/10 at 5 pm via zoom. All are welcome.
 
-The rescheduled highway cleanup is 5/14. Volunteers are needed. 7 am at Sunset Foods.
 
-The Libertyville Senior Council will meet on 5/19. Carol August is the keynote speaker and
 
Tucker Olson will be recognized.
-The District Conference is 5/20-22. The golf outing is 9:15 am on Friday 5/20. Contact Rich Schoeneman if you want to play.
 
-The Charitable Giving Committee is working on the contributions to our various charities. A recommendation will be presented at the Board meeting.
 
-Bill Rickert needs nominations for the Service Above Self Award.
 
-Tom Gore reported that the recycling event last Saturday was a huge success despite the rain. The line started at 9:40 and the truck was filled by 12:20. The event was extended to Sunday. 9250 lb. of electronics were recycled.
 
-Robin O’Connor suggested that we can earn $1000 as a Club by helping at transfer
stations on primary day in June. Robin will be looking for volunteers.
 
-There will be no collection for Misericordia on street intersections this year. Fundraising will be virtual.
 
ANNUAL ELECTIONS:
A slate of officers for the upcoming Rotary year was announced. Nominations from the floor were requested. The slate was approved by the Club unanimously.
 
FUN & FROLICS:
Our club was chartered in 1986. Steve Risley presented a musical quiz from that year.
 
PROGRAM:
Our speaker this week was Ron Arden, founder, conductor, and artistic director of the Lake County Symphony Orchestra. Ron has had many professional experiences from Houston to Green Bay with many stops along the way.
 
Ron thinks America is cultureless. Texting is not effective. We need to hear each other’s voices. Our voice is a musical instrument. You are singing with your voice. His mission is to promote great music. He has a passion for music education. The happiest artists are not concerned about a paycheck.
 
The Symphony is conducting a mini-Ravinia in Long Grove with the help of Buffalo Creek Brewing. There is a free concert on Saturday starting at 5 pm at Buffalo Creek. There will be an all-day music festival featuring 10 different groups. On May 14th the Symphony will present an “Evening of Broadway at the Hawthorn Woods Village Barn.
 
RAFFLE:
Daily: $25 won by Danny Caldwell.
Progressive: $374. Polly Grover drew the 6 of diamonds. Rollover!!
