Greg Hill opened the Zoom meeting. Pat Hart gave the Pledge, Dennis Kratohwil  led us in song – “With a little help from my friends”, and Jim Hessenthaler gave the prayer.

 

-Pat Schwartz bragged about Diana’s work on scheduling our virtual meetings.

 

-Dr. Dave Potts’ practice is fully open.

 

-Sheb Karasu was caught in the riot in Chicago on Saturday night. All the roads were blocked and she couldn’t get home. She is safe. She said it was worse than anything she saw in Turkey.

 

-The installation dinner will be virtual this year. The date is 6/24 @ 5:30. There will be actual golf that day. Contact Doug Fendon for registration.

 

-Highway cleanup is tentatively scheduled for 6/27 @ Sunset @ 7am. Pat Hart will send out an email for volunteers.

 

Today’s program featured Mary Navarro from the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center.  The Z Center provides nonprofit training and referral services for women and children who are sexually abused. They are involved in crisis intervention serving a diverse group of people.

They just recently opened a second center in Skokie.

 

They offer training to professionals, school personnel, and parents. They teach an understanding of sexual abuse, what are the indicators?, and what is the mandated reporting? Professionals such as first responders learn how to utilizes the Z Center services for survivors. Parents learn how to talk to their children about abuse, the prevalence of abuse and indicators of abuse. School personnel learn about how to handle disclosure and how to implement prevention measures.

 

The Z Center offers programs to clubs, corporations and faith based groups to educate people about the reality of sexual violence and how they can be part of the solution. The programs include: Adult sexual assault, Sexual harassment, health dating, Child sexual assault, and Prevention efforts. They also offer several school based programs. Groups include Pre K – 4^th grade, 6^th and 7^th grade, 8^th grade through high school and college level.

The Z Center has developed a referral network that includes A Safe Place and Pads. They do not charge for their services.
