PROGRAM:

Today’s program was Kristin Keramidas from Youth and Family Counseling. The organization helps individuals and families get referrals and funding for counseling for mental illness. Kristin thanked the Club for its support.  Youth and Family counseling has helped hundreds of families to get counseling. The group was started in 1962 in a small space in Winchester House getting counseling for low income families. Fees are charged on a sliding scale based on income. Medicaid patients have to deal with a large amount of paperwork. They have 3 bilingual therapists and work with other organizations on a referral basis. In the low income pockets in Lake County there is a shortage of services. They collaborate with the Waukegan Public Library, Mono a mono in Round Lake Park and Mundelein High School to name a few to provide services.

Mental health issues have a huge impact in the County. There is an increase in suicides and the opioid epidemic has added to the need for services. 1/3 of the inmates in the Lake County jail have mental issues.  Everyone has experienced a mental health issue in their family or those around them. 1 in 5 families will have an issue. Tragic events can trigger a mental health issue but most cannot access treatment.

RAFFLE:

-Progressive: $362 (42 cards). Bob Zamor drew the 9 of clubs. Rollover!
