PROGRAM:
Today’s program featured Clint Saben from the Medline Corporation. He said Medline is the “largest corporation you have never heard of.” The company was founded by the Mills family and made aprons for workers in the stockyards in Chicago. A group of nuns who were running a hospital asked if they could make aprons for the surgical unit. Medline is the only company that now covers the entire continuum of health care. They provide products for hospitals, urgent care, surgical-centers, labs, hospice care, retail stores, the government and the VA.
Products include gloves, wraps, blankets, wheelchairs to name a few. They have 335,000 products. They produce bathing systems, “shower in a box.” A major product line is procedure trays. The trays are customized to fit the doctor and the organization. They have a skin care line, and hand sanitizer was an important product during Covid. Their motto is: “We know the customer better’” They deliver the best total value. They operate in 100 countries and help hospitals run better. Their system can anticipate when a care provider will run out of a product and reminds them to reorder. They are in the same boat as the customer as reimbursement rates go down. They are the leader in infrastructure.
Medline has 6000 employees in Northern Illinois and is the second largest employer in Lake County. They are on the board of Lake County Partners, the economic development arm in Lake County.
