Tom Zengler opened the meeting with the Pledge led by Tom Miller, a prayer by Carol August and a song, ”In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” led by Doug Fendon who knew some of the words. There were no guests.

 

-Tom Miller did a 43 mile bike trip for charity in Madison, WI.

 

-Elliott Pinsel’s son is in a fraternity house at school and tested negative for Covid 19.

 

-The fundraiser this Saturday has 12 signed up for the early shift and 46 for the later time. Let friends know and SELL raffle tickets!

 

Robin O’Connor quizzed us about the 10 most famous places in the U.S.

 

Today’s program was our own Elliott Pinsel. Elliott is a defense attorney who found himself out of work when the courts in Lake County closed on March 17. He went from 6 to 10 cases per week to none. The jails were packed but no court until they reopened on June 6. His wife was laid off as well. She got them both a job at Amazon in Kenosha to keep busy.

 

Elliott was hired with no interview and no training. He was paid $15 per hour plus $2 per hour hazardous duty pay because of Covid. He worked 4 hour shifts mainly from 8 to Noon. The building is 1/3 mi by 1/3 mi in size. He started in Palletland where he was expected to scan and pack 180 to 200 packages per hour. If he did well he moved to another area where packages came down belts and ramps and were stacked on pallets. He had to stack 220 to 240 packages per hour or it was back to Palletland. There was no raise associated with the new area. Elliott also worked unloading trailers because he is tall enough to reach to the highest packages. His Supervisor told him to turn off his scanner in a trailer and he was docked 2 hours pay. No appeal!

 

Elliott descried he experience as a “tough lifestyle”. Everyone was anonymous. On the plus side they have great benefits. He is thankful for the opportunity and resigned over the public address system!
