Call to Order:  Club President Tom Zengeler called the hybrid In-Person/Zoom meeting to order.  Elliott Pinsel led the Pledge of Allegiance, a proxy for Jim Hessenthaller gave a prayer, and Dennis Kratowil, never at a loss for a song, led in singing “Happy Birthday” to Tom Gore.

-Doug Fendon received his 2^nd Pfizer COVID shot with no side effects.

 

-Tom Gore finally took down his Christmas lights.  

 

-President Zengeler’s Rotary Minute regarding water and sanitation.  Rotary has played a major role in helping other countries secure clean potable water over the years.  We cannot take this for granted.  

 

-Tom mentioned the Board meeting last evening was very constructive. 

 

-Tom also advised March 31^st (5^th Wednesday) will be an evening event in lieu of a meeting.  TBA.

 

-Pat Hart said Bingo calling has started again effective March 10th, but our participation is optional due to COVID.  Cook Towers has a resident who can do it in our absence. 

 

-Patricia Bleck mentioned that Jon Robb’s wife Cindy Robb said doctors are pleased with Jon’s progress.  He is still in ICU at Advocate Hospital, Oak Lawn.

 

-Diana Taylor encouraged everyone to participate in Service Partners of Lake County (our affiliate) Virtual Beer Tasting Party at 7:00pm Monday, March 15, 2021.  Essentially this is a Zoom Pre-St. Patrick’s Day Party with Buffalo Creek Brewing featuring 4 microbrew pairing selections.  Tickets are $25 each and this is their first fund-raising event and needs our support.

 

Fun and Frolics:  Pat Hart conducted a vaccine trivia quiz that had almost everyone stumped.   Pat had to change the questions from single answer to multiple choice to give us a shot.   

 

Program:  Terry Weppler, the Mayor of Libertyville for the past 12 years, is retiring in two months.  He said the job of mayor is not that much work with Mainstreet Libertyville and other volunteers doing much of the activities programming for the village. He often gets credit for the many programs offered through the year.   Terry gave a rundown of some of his accomplishments since becoming mayor:  Referendum 9 years ago providing $4M tax revenue (mostly from auto dealers) going to capital improvements; the Brainerd Building proposal which proved not feasible; the Liberty Theater is sold after a buyer a year ago backed out; the Fould’s building which was relocated from remains of the Chicago Columbian Exposition, is saved.  After flooding, the water flow project has been started and will take 10-12 years to complete with funding; the village is coming back after COVID and with following the science.  Libertyville Days has been moved to August 15^th this year; Donna Johnson is running uncontested for mayor and three new trustees will be elected; the Sports Complex will reopen when COVID conditions allow, and the golf side of the operation has been sold.

 

Raffle:  Progressive down to 45 cards.  The Ace of Spades was not pulled by Rich Shoeneman – rolls.  Someone won the $33 cash.
