BULLETIN – May 22, 2024

President Babjak opened the meeting, and Rich Schoeneman led us in prayer.

 

Babjak welcomed Ellen Young and Robert Steinberg from the Passport RC.

 

Bob Zamor bragged about his recent trip to Ak Tenamit in Guatemala.  Despite unusual heat, the group constructed an 80’ X 30’ foot dining hall and an 30’ X 20” 

Kitchen on the girl’s campus, as well as numerous other projects. 

Doug Fendon bragged that he had intruded on his wife’s golf lesson to get some pointers from the pro.  Watch out “Four Way Test” Golfers.

 

-This will be our last scheduled evening meeting and we will return to Lambs next Wednesday morning.

- Our next service project will be Thursday, May 30, anytime between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Our host will be Catholic Charities Round Lake Garden 101 N. Cedar Lake Road, Round Lake. Please park in the large parking lot right next to the garden.

-On June 21^st, there will be an Installation Golf Outing at White Deer Run.  Tee times are planned to begin at 10 am.  Please contact Doug Fendon if you intend to golf.

- On June 26^th, there will be an installation Dinner at the home of Tom Zengeler. 

 

Bill Rickert played a round of “Get to Know your Rotarian”, where the answers to questions about who had a paper route with two Packers on it, who climbed a 10’ fence to sneak into Packer Games, and many others had but one answer…”Bill Rickert”.  Interesting to learn of the early life causes of Bill’s obsession with the Packers but he has been an adult for some time now and there simply is no excuse not to support Da Bears…..c’mon Bill ;)

 

Today’s program was a member profile of Kim Smith.  Kim was born and raised in Libertyville and began working at the Centre Club 35 years ago  (Were there no child labor laws back then?).  For the last 6 years, she has served as the Centre Club’s General Manager.  Kim informed us that the Centre Club was one of the first hospital –based health clubs in the country, and from its inception has focused on community health as well as disease prevention and mitigation. The Centre Club is truly an asset to the community and now has over 4000 members.

Kim joined Rotary at the request of Advocate Condell but quickly learned the Club aligned with her interests to serve the community.  In addition to Rotary, she is on the Board of SEDOL, the Chamber of Commerce, and works to support the American Heart Association through fundraising. 

Kim currently lives in Mundelein with her husband, and they have one adult daughter living in Colorado.
