BULLETIN – October 15, 2025

President Tom Gore rang the bell and called on Ellen Young to give the Pledge. Greeter Tucker Olson led us in prayer and Song Meister Dennis Kratohwil took us through the Cat Stevens hit “Peace Train” which was only remarkable because there was no long winded introduction!

BRAGS:
-Tom Miller just returned from a 10-day golf trip in Scotland with 72 guys from his club. He claimed to have not lost one golf ball! Is it the truth Tom?
-Ellen young bragged that her son and daughter-in-law were in town this past weekend. Her daughter in law ran in and finished the Chicago Marathon and improved her time from last year!
-Scott Hezner bragged about his father-in-law who passed away last Sunday. He was a simple man with personal skills who raised a beautiful daughter.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-We inducted 2 new members today. 
     -Tyler Stokesbary works for RI International as a major gift director. He lives in Gurnee.
     -Angelina Fakhoury-Siverts was tapped by Pete Goverchin to represent City of Hope in 
      our Club. Angie holds a nursing position at the hospital.
-Rick Mittelman has taken on the position of RI International Foundation Chair. He reminded us that the Club will match the first $500 from a member who obtains a Paul Harris Fellow. He also awarded Scott Hezner a level 2 Paul Harris Fellow.
-The Holiday Party will take place on 12/3 at Nirvana in Vernon Hills. Please RSVP to the email.
-10/29 is the fifth Wednesday of the month. There will be no morning meeting. We will have a Halloween party at Kim Smith’s house at 5:30 pm. RSVP to 224 715 3818.
-We received thank you cards from District 70 students thanking us for the Riley trailer exhibit. Riley is an iron lung display.
-Elliot Pinsel will be conducting his holiday ornament drive. There will be a bus at Nirvana on 12/3. He is hoping to collect presents for 380 disabled children and adults.

WHEEL:
-Dave Potts was wheeled for not showing up to greet last week. He was able to do a passable version of “God Bless America” to avoid the fine.

FUN & FROLICS:
-Elliot Pinsel conducted a Cubs trivia quiz.

PROGRAM:
Today’s program was District Governor Marlene Frisbee. Marlene is a CPA and a member of the Rotary Club of Woodstock. She has been a Rotarian for 10 years and has served as he Club President. She said she became a Rotarian when she helped with their Christmas project where they distribute toys and meals to the needy in Woodstock.
She told us about the Rotary Action Plan where Rotary hopes to strengthen and improve what clubs are doing. There are 4 parts to the plan. First, increase impact. The Gates Foundation has contributed $450 million in matching grants for Polio Plus. Measure the impact by counting the families who have been impacted and communicating the results. Second, expand our reach by recruiting new members. Third, enhance community engagement. What do members get from their Club? Rotary means business. Networking should be available to non-Rotarians. Use the membership tools on the district website. Adopt a healthy club culture. Follow the four-way test. Fourth, increase our ability to adapt. If policies are obsolete, change them.
She also encouraged us to focus on a 3-year horizon. She has 2 personal initiatives. First, focus on the environment. She directed us to a TED talk on climate change. Second, bring awareness to the prevention of cervical cancer. Vaccinate kids from 10 to 13 for HPV. She urged us to attend the District Conference on 11/1. Register at the district website. There will be great breakout sessions and several new speakers.

RAFFLE:
-Daily: $28. Won by Tucker Olson.
-Progressive: $409 (41 cards). Jim Curtis drew the queen of clubs. ROLLOVER!
