President Richard Schoeneman presided at the meeting and we opened with a pledge, a prayer, and a joyous musical moment, as we all joined in singing ”Smile.”

 

 

Elliot Pinsel bragged about his son who received a great write up in the Chicago Tribune for a great performance as line backer on Libertyville High School’s football team.

 

 

Scott Hezner has now been happily married for thirty-seven happy years with no end in sight.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Next week  September 29 in lieu of a morning meeting, we will be holding a packing event at Feed My Starving Children at 6:00 that evening.  We still have openings, so please sign up on line, or contact Greg Hill if you are technologically challenged. Also keep your eyes open for information on a social gathering following the packing.  Due to Covid restrictions, you must sign up in advance, if you will be attending

 

Our wine tasting fundraisers on October 2 and October 9, are fast approaching. Please keep selling tickets to the event and the accompanying raffle, and any additional sponsors you manage to recruit will be appreciated.

 

Doug Fendon announced that he is organizing a membership drive which he hopes to launch shortly. As part of this drive, he is asking everyone to submit a name to him of someone you think might like to join.

 

After another great season of jolly comradery on the links and records breaking drives on the fairways, the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Monday night golf league is retiring to the nineteenth hole until next spring.

 

Tom Zengeler is conducting a coats for veterans drive through October 31. On October 13, he will be gathering coats at our morning meeting, for those who would like to deliver them then.

 

The Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club is holding a highway clean-up event on Saturday morning October 16.  We will launch the crews at 7:00 a.m. from the southeast corner of Butterfield and 137.  Let Pat Hart know if you are available.

 

This week Tom Zengeler “entertained” his fellow Rotarians by providing us with 7 algebra problems to solve. Most of us fell short of correctly answering three questions, which would have qualified us for a lower score, although rumor has it that Seb solved them all with one hand tied behind her back.  By the way a reliable source informs me that Tom could not answer any of them.

 

 

Our speaker this week was our newly installed district governor, Kevin Stevens, whom most of us know from his past visits to our club while he was assistant governor.

 

Kevin emphasized in his speech that our club is directly a member of Rotary International.  The district does not have authority over the member clubs in the district. They are merely a service center for those clubs.  He also recognized that the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club serves as a role model for the district.

 

Kevin’s main goals for his year as governor are:

 

A big part of the governors job is membership development, and Kevin wants to promote the approach of starting with getting potential members involved in Rotary Community Service projects, as a preliminary steps before inviting them to meetings.

 

Tom Miller failed to sign in this week, and after some preliminary whining about the world always picking on him, he paid five dollars.

 

Tom Gore went for the big bucks this week, but he failed to draw the ace of spades out of 19 cards to win $1,027.00.  So the prize continues to expand. Dave Potts then won the $30.00 weekly drawing.

 

No morning meeting next week.  We will instead be holding an evening packing event at Feed My Starving Children in fulfillment of the Rotary Motto “Service above Self.”.
