President Pinsel opened the meeting, Tom Zengler gave the Pledge and Patricia Bleck led us in prayer. No one came forward with a song. Boo Hoo!

 

BRAGS:

-Elliott is leaving for Florida in 2 days.

 

-Dave Ritland’s birthday is January 12^th and John Blair’s is January 14^th. No word on ages.

 

-Howard Jaffe filled us in on the Fundraiser. March 11^th is not far off!

     -70 tickets sold so far.

     -Jon Robb is lining up pre show restaurants. He has six so far and the goal is 10.

     - We need sponsors. The Presenting sponsor is $10k. They will have their name on all materials.

       Other levels are available.

     -Silent auction items are needed. We need double the regular number because we hope to sell 600     

      tickets. Suggested items are wine for the wine cellar and bottles of bourbon.

     -Reach out to your network.

 

-We received a thank you letter from Giving Kind.

 

 

Tom Miller entertained us with a dice game. Our table didn’t win.

 

Today’s program was Eric Foose from Pads. Eric is the Deputy Director. Pads’ mission is to provide a place for those with “no where to go”. They serve as the gateway to the homeless services system. The next step is a link  to other organizations based on need. Pads started in the 70’s to provide advocacy, dignity and shelter for the homeless. Before the pandemic people were sheltering in churches. They were provided with dinner, a pad to sleep on and breakfast. They were then bussed to Pads where an effort was made to find them an apartment and a job if needed. During the pandemic, churches could no longer accommodate overnight stays, so Pads housed people in hotels. This was a strain on their budget.

 

Pads has a helpline and serves about 800 people per year. 80% of their clients are new. The churches have now opened back up and Pads receives money from the Cares Act and the American Rescue Plan although this funding is dwindling. They spent $1 million on hotels. Pads is searching for a permanent site. It took 30 days to find someone an apartment. It now takes 90 days. They hope to get a federal grant to fund the project.

 

Pads’ clients are in a desperate situation. Half are families. Many have suffered from drug overdoses. Pads has a great staff and have the capability to administer Narcan.
