BULLETIN – May 21, 2025

President Jon Robb rang the bell, Rich Babjak gave the Pledge, Greeter Mary Cole led us in prayer, and returning Song Meister, Dennis Kratohwil helped us through “God Bless America” in honor of Memorial Day. 

 

-Howard Jaffe told us that the Club is getting noticed. We were mentioned in the Libertyville newsletter by the Mayor. We are a Libertyville Days Parade sponsor, and Market Days and Lunch in the Park thanked us for our charitable efforts.

-Patricia Bleck bragged that Emma, the last of her brood, graduated from the U of I. no more tuition!

-Bob Zamor just returned from his trip to Guatemala with 25 others. They taught English and built a dormitory. You can join Bob on next year’s trip in May.

-Scott Hezner has been working with UMMA in Waukegan to establish a new site for their operation.

 

-NO MORNING MEETING NEXT WEEK May 28^th. We will be working with Heart of the City in Waukegan at their end of season celebration.

-Sign up to walk in the Libertyville Days Parade on June 14^th.

-Tom Zengler will host our year end celebration and Installation Dinner on June 25^th. Details to follow.

 

John McDonald entertained us with a quiz about the new Pope.

 

Today’s program featured Tasha Taylor who is the Midwest Coordinator for Young Life Capernaum which is a group that supports teens with disabilities. YLC is an international organization that has 369 groups in 30 countries. They serve over 30,000 teens and Tasha has been with the group for 20 years. They have 7 organizations in Chicagoland. They try to provide the teens with friendship, purpose, growth, and authentication. 

According to the last census, there are 7.2 million teens with disabilities. Many churches have disability programs. 95% of YLC’s program consists of meeting new friends and socializing. The kids experience a sense of belonging. Each group creates an inclusive environment. This is done through contact, work, relationships and mentors.

They have a 6-day summer camp which is resort style and overnight. Each kid stays in a dormitory with their local area and local leaders. The camp is conducted using a universally designed inclusion model.  

YLC supports adolescents between the ages of 14 and 22. They provide meals during the school year. They have a fidget program. Fidgets are toys or stress balls that reduce anxiety.

YLC will raise funds with a golf outing at Thunderhawk on October 6^th.
