BULLETIN – August 20, 2025

President Gore rang the bell and we all rose to give the Pledge, Greeter Diana Servos lead us in prayer, and Song Meister Dennis Kratohwil, who has taken a little heat of late for lengthy intros, led us in a severely abridged Star Spangled Banner

-Carol August bragged about attending weddings recently where attendees were surprised she knew the words to “Que, Sera, Sera”.  Dennis might we have substitute Song Meister during your annual sojourn to the Sunshine State?

-Charles Lesser bragged about being recognized by Forbes Magazine as being one of the Top Advisors under 40!!  He also got to introduce his young daughter to Saugatuck, Mi., and the 5^th generation of her family to do so.

-Howard Jaffe updated us on upcoming events that we are sponsoring.  He has 35 tickets the Misericordia FunFest  on September 7^th, and he is looking for 2^nd shift volunteers to work the beer tent at the Mickey Finn’s USO Fundraiser September 18^th.

-President Gore announced that we have an opportunity to bring the Rotary Iron Lung Education Exhibit (RILEE) to District 70 students.  We are looking for someone with a vehicle and a hitch to transport the trailer to our schools. 

Steve Risley quizzed each table with just two questions.  Given a particular decade, who was the Bears leading running back and what was that decade’s top song.  Not surprisingly, we did better with the Bears…….

Today’s program featured Jenny Barry, President of the Libertyville Historical Society.  From its beginnings in 1955 as the Libertyville/Mundelein Historical Society, the group started with a historical room in the Cook House, which at the time was the town’s library.  Jenny, who has been the Society’s President the last 10 years, told the story of how the Cook Mansion was originally a residence from 1878 through 1921.  From 1921-1968 it was used as a library, and after the current library was built on the property, the house became the headquarters for the historical society, which was renamed the Libertyville Historical Society in 2022.  Tours are offered on Sundays during the summer, in the weeks prior to Christmas, and by appointment.  Further information is available on their website:   https://www.libertyvillehistory.org
