Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Bulletin March 22, 2023

President Pinsel presided this week, and we opened our meeting with a pledge and a prayer.

 

We had a slew of dignitaries from the Rotary District joining us this week including Thor Davidson, Bill Kmieclk, Mary Bak, Marlene Frisbie, and Donna Lee Gulley.  We were also honored once more with the presence of John Blair’s brother, Bate Blair.

 

John Blair bragged that his daughter had given birth to her fourth child.  The baby needed heart surgery immediately after birth, but is now doing find.

 

Bill Taranowski bragged that his son is on the varisty tennis team, and his daughter is studying in Spain.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Our President reminded us to be sure to RSVP to Jon Robb if we are attending the 5^th Wednesday event on March 29.

 

Fun & frolics was waved this week to allow more time for other matters.

 

This week our visitors from the district recognized two new Paul Harris major donors from our club, Tom Zengeler and David Potts. To become a major donor one has to contribute $10,000.00 to the foundation, and about a quarter of the members of the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club are major donors.

 

Patricia Bleck and Jim Curtis have also recently become Paul Harris Fellows Plus 2.  Donations help the foundation continue with its charitable activities.  A big part of the good it does comes through grants to individual clubs.  The foundation will provide a one to one match for clubs engaged in local projects and a three to one match for clubs involved in global projects. 

 

Howard Jaffe presented the results of our fundraiser.  Our gross receipts were just short of $150,000.00 and with expenses of approximately $30.000.00 we netted just under $118,000.00 which will be distributed to charities.  The expenses included $10,000.00 paid to Second City for their performance.  Libertyville High School did not charge us for the use of their building, because of the support we have given in scholarships to their students.

 

This far exceeds what we have made in any past fundraisers.  Howard thanked every member of the club for their support, and he gave special thanks to Patricia Bleck for handling our publicity, Jon Robb for dealing with all our participating restaurants, and Tom Miller for applying his financial expertise to the management of this event. 

 

We had $22.00 in our regular pot, and $183.00 in the progressive pot with 48 card left.  Mary Cole tried for the big bucks, but went home empty handed when she only drew the seven of hearts.  Diana Servos then captured the weekly prize and donated her winnings to Shelter Box.
