BULLETIN – July 17, 2024

President Robb called the meeting to order. Is the Bell missing? Tom Miller gave the Pledge, Jim Curtis led us in prayer, and Dennis Kratohwil helped us through “Take me out to the ball game”.

 

-Bill Rickert bragged that he attended a Mediterranean dinner donated by Seb Karasu at the Fundraiser. It was a 5-hour feast!

 

-Our next service project is Habitat for Humanity on July 31^st. We need volunteers from 8 am to 3pm. Lunch will be provided. Email Patricia Bleck to sign up.

-July 31^st at 5:30 pm we will have a Picnic in the Grove at Independence Grove next to the Beer Garden. This is the fifth Wednesday of the month, so there will be NO MORNING MEETING.

 

John McDonald found an old Trivia Pursuit card on the last Highway Cleanup. You guessed it, he used the card for a trivia quiz. The next Highway Cleanup will be in October. Stay tuned. 

 

Today we inducted a new member, Gina Shad. Gina is a new grandma and a realtor with @Prooerties.

 

Glenn Garlick bragged that our Club is number 1 in donations to the Foundation out of 66 Clubs in the District with $48k donated this year.

 

Today’s program was the second installment of the presentation of grants to charities.

-First up was Art Impact Project. Vicky Morasco and Liz Foles told us about their efforts to enhance emotional wellness for veterans, addicts and school kids with art projects.

-Bravehearts was represented by Ben Jalove. They give veterans a new outlook with therapeutic riding.

-Samantha Santiago accepted for Center for Enriched Living. They find jobs for people with developmental disabilities.

-Dawn Chapin Brandau (Ken’s daughter) represented Free Spirits. They have helped the disabled through a softball team for 30 years. They are sending players to the Special Olympics.

-Amy Subry from SEDOL accepted a grant. They help children and young adults with special needs. They conduct a summer camp every year and will have a golf outing in September.

-Super Jack Foundation was represented by Ryan May. Their work is supporting research for pediatric cancer. They provide grants to help defray the costs of treatment for kids that can’t afford the cost.

-Nicole Anderson accepted a grant for Waukegan to College. They started in 2009 and help kids, who are the first generation to go to college, get accepted and funded for college. They recently had their 100^th student graduate from college.

-Jennifer Yonan and Rosie Roche accepted a grant for YCC, Inc. YCC provides career readiness, construction training and a GED to at risk youth.

-Zacharias Center was represented by Olivia Steubler. Zacharias helps sexually abused women and children find a new safe, life. They have a 24-hour support line and have helped 563 survivors. They have a fund raiser 5k race at Independence Grove on 9/15.

-Louise Keaks represented Bravo Waukegan. 15 years ago, the music program was cancelled in Waukegan. Bravo provides access to music programs by donating instruments and providing a 4-week music summer camp for kids.

-The Lake County Symphony was represented by Ron Alden. He told us the symphony is made up of students and teachers in Lake County. They are professional and earn money from their concerts.

 

New member Gina Shad did not sign in and received her baptism by spinning the wheel. She did her best touchdown dance.

-July 31^st is the picnic. August 7 will be a discussion of the next Fundraiser.
