Tom Zengeler led this week’s meeting, and we started off with a pledge and a prayer, but no song.
BRAGS:
Larry Neal has plunged into his new grandfather role by taking on his first baby sitting assignment.
Diana Taylor bragged that she has added several employees to her organization.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
This week David Ritland and John Blair are celebrating birthdays, and Tony Collins and Polly Grover are celebrating wedding anniversaries.
Greg Hill is organizing a volunteer evening at the Northern Illinois Food Bank on January 19, and could use a few more cheerful helpers.
Our winter fundraiser is fast approaching on Saturday February 26, at 6:00 p.m., and the event will include a silent auction, a fifty/fifty raffle, dinner delivered to your door and virtual live entertainment. The website has gone live allowing you to purchase tickets. Please let Steve Risley know what auction items will be coming and contact Doug Fendon on sponsorships.
FUN & FROLICS:
By popular demand Scott Hezner led us in Fun & Frolics for a second week in a row, and this time he conducted a version of the “Match Game” with a slew of interesting questions like how a robber figured out that he had come to a town of interior decorators, because instead of tarring and feathering him they wall papered him. His performance went over well, and from my informal poll Scott is now way ahead in the vote for best fun and frolics this year. Everyone agrees he was much better than his competition from last week.
PROGRAM:
Our speaker cancelled because of illness, so we watched a film on Honor Flight Chicago, an organizations which our club has contributed to, and which most of us our familiar with. Some of our members have even gone on their flights as chaperones. Honor Flight Chicago flies veterans to Washington D.C. for a day to visit war memorials and other sights.
RAFFLE:
Our prize grew so large this week that some of our members were certain that they could feel the hot breath of Lady Luck breathing down their necks. In my own case I became so excited that I almost bought a ticket. We had $1,640.00 in the progressive pot with only five cars left and $63.00 for a weekly prize. Rick Mittelman lost in his effort for the big bucks, which means that next week the potential colossal winnings will be even more potentialer and even more colossaler ! Meanwhile David Potts won the weekly prize.
WHEEL TIME:
With all the problems the world is facing, you might think that we should not worry too much, about someone failing to sign in for our meeting. However, anyone who feels this way obviously does not understand the mentality of our sergeant at arms, who this week nailed Tom Miller and John McDonald for this gruesome offense. Tom paid a small fine, while John with his artistic nature decided to instead sing us a song next week. Maybe we have a budding winter songmeister in our midst.
NEXT WEEK:
Greeter and Prayer: Brad Gutzler
Fun and Frolics: Ron Lapin
QUOTE FOR THE DAY:
“You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts.” Daniel Patrick Moynihan
