On an impending rainy day, President-Elect Bill Taranowski opened the meeting and called on Howard Jaffe to give the Pledge. Ms. Kim Smith then led us with an uplifting prayer about unity to overcome the dreariness outside. Our song meister, Dennis Kratohwil, ran with this theme and directed the members to sing the Bill Whithers’ song, “Just the Two of Us’, but sung by a rapping Will Smith. The song was a great segway into today’s meeting.
BRAGS: Mr. Tom Zengeler bragged about attending the College World Series (Baseball for anyone not knowing). He said 4 days of watching baseball, cheering, and sitting in the sun took it out of him.
This was the only brad today.

-June 26th Lunch in the Park” from 10 to 2. Sunrise will have a prominent position in Cook Park. We will be setting up our tent to attract and talk to potential new members or people who want to know more about Rotary. If you would like to volunteer, please do so and contact Doug Fendon. This is light work plus you receive a MAKE UP credit.
-July 22nd Installation Dinner. Please try to make dinner. Tom Zengeler has graciously let the club use his house for the get-together. A beautiful location, a BBQ, drinks, and the “boot” given to our outgoing President, Tom Gore and a hearty welcome to our new President, Bill Taranowski. It begins sharply at 5:30 pm and will end about 7:30. Spouses are welcomed and in fact, encouraged to attend. This is a wonderful social event.
-There is still time to donate as we approach the end of the year to the Rotary Fund and to Polio Plus. Contact Howard Jaffe. All donations need to be in by the end of June.
-Today, a third Sunrise Rotarian’s email has been hacked. Emails with a headline saying you are “Graciously Invited to attend” from Doug Fendon are spam. This happened to Bob Zamor last week and to Glenn Garlick, a few weeks earlier. Do not open these emails.
FUN & FROLICS: Dave Potts futuriously received this assignment for this date, just before the golf U.S.Open. His subject ironically was the upcoming U.S. Open, known for challenging course set ups and tough scoring conditions. Dave tested our knowledge of the history of this event. I will give you all the answers: 1895; Chicago Golf Club (Wheaton,IL); Onwentsia Club (Lake Forest); 1906; 2003; Olympia Fields CC; and a few others.
PROGRAM: Libertyville Day Parade, this Saturday at 9:30 am. The theme of the parade is to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the USA. We will be part of a nationwide celebration which has begun in other parts of the country.
The parade is the biggest, or at least one of the biggest events, the Village of Libertyville stages. This year, the start of the parade will be led by your Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club. We are first in line to march, from the train station south on Milwaukee Avenue to Rockland Road at the parade’s end. Leading the parade offers our Club to shine to our community, and to the approximately 5,000 parade watchers along the street. Mr. Rich Schoeneman is our coordinator for our participation. Members of the club are encouraged to be part of the parade. You are welcome to have your family members walk the parade with the club. A beautiful blue banner with our name in white and gold will be showcasing us as we walk along Milwaukee Avenue. We will be passing out candy to the youngsters. (Please hand them to the parade watchers only). We also will be passing out American flags and Rotary information. There will be some surprises for the parade viewers such as a juggler on stilts, a motorized golf bag with banners, and some other special secrets.
LSR is a vital organization in our community, and we are looking for additional members.
Dress either in Rotary apparel or in red, white, and blue combinations for the parade.
RAFFLE: The first number drawn for today’s raffle was Howard Jaffe. Having an accounting and bankers background you would think he would have taken the sure thing of $45.00. He wanted to pick the playing cards, only 13 left and looking for that Ace of Spades to win the progressive raffle of $1,410. His card was the Ace…of Clubs. Rollover!!!!. There will be only 12 cards left next week. Rick Mittelman’s raffle number was then picked next and he took home $45.00.
