BULLETIN – May 1, 2024

President elect Jon Robb called the meeting to order. John McDonald gave the pledge and Howard Jaffe led us in prayer.

 

-Bill Taranowski bragged about how we had so many LHS students and advisors at the meeting.

 

-The club pledged $2,725 of our District Designated Funds to a Global Grant submitted by the Elgin Breakfast Club for an eyecare unit to be staffed by the local hospital in Indore, India.

-The Club donated $3,000 for construction of a new dining facility for the Ak Tenamit school in Rio Dulce, Guatemala. Bob Zamor will be part of building this facility when he travels there this week.

-We submitted and received a District Public Image Grant for $500. These funds have been put into the Club’s main operating funds.

-There will be a shooting event on Thursday May 9^th at the Northbrook Sports Club in Hainesville. Larry Neal is the host. Sign up sheet or see Larry if you are interested. Drinks and food afterwards at Crossroads. Cost is $20 plus $.35 per clay and $.60 per shot.

-Students who attended the RYLA Conference gave us information on the event. They all got a lot out of the Conference.

 

-Tim Klein - 36 years, Dennis Kratohwil - 35 years, Bob Zamor – 28 years, Carol August – 7 years, Robin O’Connor – 7 years.

 

Members of the LHS Interact Club gave us a quiz on Gen Z slang definitions.

 

Today’s program was Wendy Schilling from the Libertyville Junior Woman’s Club. The club was formed in 1963. They have 45 members and associate members. They lost 15 to 20 members during Covid. The Civic Center sponsors the Club, and they conduct 3 types of fundraisers. Their main activity is coordinating Libertyville Days and the parade. They participate by manning 78 4-hour shifts at the Civic Center. They also conduct several events including Pumpkin Fest which we help sponsor. Last year the Township Food Bank received food and $500 from that event. They give back to organizations that do not have corporate sponsors. At holiday time they adopt families and provide them with food and other items. Finally, they give 2 scholarships to worthy young ladies every year.

 

-Bill Tananowski was wheeled for not signing in. Looks like we have Highway Cleanup covered for this year!

 

-Daily: $17. Tom Zengler donated his winnings to the Food Pantry.

-Progressive: $268 (41 cards). Bill Taranowski drew the Jack of Clubs. ROLLOVER!
