BULLETIN – 03/12/2025
By  – Scott Hezner

President - Jon Robb opened the meeting and called on Howard Jaffe to give the Pledge.
Scott Hezner led us in prayer.
Guests were: Ron Arden, Janice Mason, Marco Amedi

BRAGS:
-Jon Robb Bragged about the Very successful Fundraiser and thanked the club for all the work that was done.

-Elliot Pinsel also Bragged about the club and the fundraiser and added that last year wasn’t as funny as this year.

-Bill Taranowski bragged that his son achieved the level of Eagle Scout.  A very proud moment for both of them.

-Scott Hezner bragged about Howard wheeling a guest who may or may not have miss represented themselves with an alias. The guest when questioned did not give a direct answer to what her identity was so Howard Jaffe wheeled her.
-Scott bragged that he enjoyed another first for our club which was wheeling a guest! Also, it should be recognized that Rich Babjak, in a show of true Rotarian spirit, paid the guests $10 fine! That Rich Babjak is one heck of a Rotarian!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-Patricia Bleck announced a Community Service project with Beacon House on the morning of April 12th. All are welcome to join in!

-Guest Ron Arden, Lake County Symphony Director, announced an opportunity to enjoy the Lake County Symphony Orchestra playing Jazz on March 15th at 5:30 PM, at the Hawthorn Woods Barn, 2 Lagoon Drive, Hawthorn Woods, IL 60031.  He referred to the program as “Jazz A La Cart” where they will be playing a trio of Jazz performances. You can find more information at www.lakecountysymphonyorchestra.com

-Professional golf organizer Ron Lapins announced that the 16th year of the “4 Way Testers” Golf League will be starting up on Monday, April 28th at Countryside Golf Course. There was a rush to pay the $50 entry fee and some members of the club feared for Ron’s safety.

-Howard Jaffe gave an abbreviated summary for the Second City Fundraiser that occurred this past Saturday evening. As is customary with Howard, nothing is truly an abbreviation when he speaks about this fundraiser so all in attendance were given the a fairly informed, but abbreviated, summary of the event which included it being a fantastic community event with great participation. Ticket sales were slightly lower this year at 497 and so were the 50/50 raffle amounts, but the auction, led by Rich Schoeneman was very successful.

Howard reminded us that we all need to be gracious and extend our heartfelt thanks to Rich, Kim Smith (event marketing), Tom Miller (general place holder and accounting and website guru), the Sponsor procurement team (Jim Curtis, Howard Jaffe and a cast of thousands), and all club members who made the event a great success. Howard was given an abbreviated round of applause for his exceptional organizational efforts and Tom Miller made sure to note that Howard’s efforts are truly paramount when it comes to this event. We all benefit greatly from his knowledge and event planning skills with this event, as Tom very eloquently stated “this event does not happen without Howard”, or at least not as successfully. Howard will give more detailed, but somewhat abbreviated details, at a future date when there is more clarity regarding event costs, fees etc.

FUN & FROLICS: There was no Fun & no Frolicking on this day.  We all will have to save our cheerful and excited energy for another day.  The tally was still $3 per.

PROGRAM:
Today’s program was brought to us by Dr. David Jolly who is a Chiropractic Physician who works with Acupuncture, Soft Tissue Techniques, and Cupping.  Dr. Jolly was primarily speaking about Acupuncture on this day.  Dr. Jolly attended the National University of Health Sciences and initially was involved in sports medicine, massage therapy, adjustments, rehab, and some cupping and acupuncture.  He spoke of the history of acupuncture which dates back thousands of years where Indian cultures developed a human body map with 100 points for acupuncture and the Chinese expanded that to 300 points on the body.  Dr. Jolly indicated that the way acupuncture works is with the “concept of QI” or “Life Force”.  It stimulates a body’s “meridians” (points of balance), improves a bodies function, and influences the bodies nervous system.  Among the benefits include that it is not invasive and it is drug free.  Dr. Jolly indicated Acupuncture is used a lot in hospitals as it has very few side effects.  It is especially effective with back pain, migraines, and arthritis. It has a lot to do with energy and blood flow.  He did say that it is not a good idea for pregnant women in their third trimester to have acupuncture.  The summary he provided is that acupuncture is a wholistic approach to health and wellness that is safe, effective, and worth considering.

RAFFLE: -Daily: $22.00 won By Marco Amedi (welcome back Marco!). Marco donated his winnings back to the Club!
Progressive: $510.00 with 30 (something) cards remaining. Jim Curtis’ number was called and he had his guest Ron Arden pick (because Ron is “much” luckier that Jim? Say what?). Ron drew the 4 of clubs! Ha!.  ROLLOVER!
