President Taylor opened the meeting, Bob Zamor led us in the Pledge, and Bill Rickert gave the prayer. There was no song. Boo Hoo! Tucker Olson’s phone range and he spun the wheel. He opted to pay $10 rather than do his best touchdown dance.

 

Brags:
There were no brags!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-The first highway cleanup will be April 13 at 7 am. Meet at Sunset Foods.

-A meeting of the Wine and Beer Fest committee will be held next Tuesday at 5:30 pm at Pet Factory.

 

-The 4 way Testers golf league starts on April 22.

 

-The Charitable Giving Dinner will be held on May 1 at 5:00 pm at White Deer Run.

 

-Pads and the Haven, who were the recipients of the money raised with the paddle raise at the     fundraiser, will be presented with checks at the morning meeting on May 15.

 

-Scott Hezner reported that there are 5 students interested in District scholarships. We also will be donating money for tool bags for the Electrical Union Local 150. We are sponsoring their tool program.

 

-ADG Stevens told us that the District Conference will be held May 4 and 5 at the Hyatt Schaumburg. The cost to register is $7.

 

FUN & FROLICS:
Bob Zamor entertained us with a game requiring everyone to pick up M&Ms with chop sticks. We fumbled  through  it!

 

PROGRAM:
Today’s program was Bruce Matsunaga President of the local Libertyville American Legion Post. The American Legion is 100 years old this year and is the oldest veterans organization in the Country . The Libertyville Post is 99 years old! Each post is independent and does not report to a regional or national office. The local post has about 145 members with only 17 being active. The average age is 75!

The Post bought the building they are in in 1973 and it is in disrepair. They need $60k to remodel the bathrooms and an additional $45k for other repairs. Their dues are $35 with $32 going to the National. They make $300 to $400 each week from Bingo and they rent out the building for parties. They also rent out their parking lot. They are starting a Queen of Hearts Raffle in April.

 

Their mission is to help veterans. They donate most of their funds to the Veteran’s Assistance Commission. They are in need of contributions.

 

RAFFLE:
-Daily: $15 won by Pat Schwartz.

 

-Progressive:  $101 (50 cards). Dave Ritland did not draw the Ace of Spades. Rollover!
