Greg Hill, getting an early start on his Presidential term, opened the meeting, Dave Potts helped us with the Pledge and Dennis Kratohwil  led us in prayer and his rendition of “Take me out to the ball game”.

 

-Teri Dreher received a top fearless over 50 women’s award. She pointed out that it is not too late to make a Paul Harris gift. The more the Club gives, the more we receive in matching grants from Rotary.

 

-Jeff Harger has completed the rebranding of his company.

 

-Patty Bleck celebrated her 36^th wedding anniversary and is most proud of her 4 kids.

 

-Bill Taranowski bragged that his daughter Claire is on an exchange trip to France.

 

-Carol August wished Peggy Freese well on her retirement after 22 years of service at the Township.

 

-Doug Fendon has ordered 27 Rotary shirts.

 

-Greg Hill and his wife celebrated 28 years of wedded bliss.

 

-Because of the 4^th of July Holiday, there will be no morning meeting on 7/3.

 

-Extra tickets for the Wine and Beer Fest are coming.

 

-The Fundraiser committee will meet next Wednesday. Details to follow.

 

-The Installation Dinner will be 6/26 at White Deer Run. Golf will start that day at Noon.

 

-Scott Hezner is putting a work project together at the American Legion in late summer or early fall.

 

-Peggy Freese forgot she had Fun & Frolics but quickly recovered with a joke telling contest by table.

 

Today’s program was Alexandre Sossa from FLAP, the Farmworker & Landscaper Advocacy Project. The group is celebrating their 20^th anniversary and has received the Illinois Human Rights Award. They have 2 locations in Kane County and McHenry and work to educate undocumented workers. They work closely with the Mexican Consulate to bring their services to the suburbs. They help workers to get passports, open bank accounts and get dual citizenship for kids born in this country. The parents can be deported and the kids stay here.

 

FLAP gets no Federal funding and sees about 1000 people each week. They work primarily through the Secretary of State’s offices. Companies misuse the undocumented workers. They have helped about 30,000 get H1B visas to work permanently here. They also assist other to get H2B visas for seasonal work. They are looking for space to house people from the Mexican Consulate in the suburbs. They have a staff of 4 including a staff attorney and have relationships with 49 law firms to help with legal issues.
