BRAGS:

-Tim Cline bragged that his youngest daughter was married on New Year’s Eve and is expecting a child. This will be the Klein’s fifth grandchild.

 

FOUNDATION MINUTE: Read by Rich.

 

-The Service Partners of Lake County will have a Cinqo de Mayo  event on 5/3 at 7 pm. Cost is $20. Register on our website. Sponsorships are available for $250.

 

-Blue Star recycling event is 5/8. Volunteers needed. Contact Tom Gore.

 

-Sign up for District officer training on 5/15, 9 to 12.

 

-The 4 way testers first golf day was last Monday. We have 28 golfers. 19 showed up.

 

-Rich Babjak reported that there will be no Misericordia Candy Days this year. He will send a link to their virtual fundraiser.

 

-DG Lyle Staab told us The district is cooperating with Toastmasters. 5 clubs will hold a hybrid meeting as part of the District Conference on 6/2.

 

Tim Klein entertained us with IRS “Fun Facts”. Is there such a thing?

 

Today’s program was Scott Burton. Scott grew up in Libertyville and joined the Marines instead of taking the path to college. He was one of the first units to cross into Iraq in 2003. After his Marine service he graduated from Northwestern and obtained his law degree from the University of Virginia. He then worked on Senator McCain’s Presidential campaign followed by a stint in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office where he met his wife. He also worked in a law firm in Arkansas and moved back to Libertyville 3 years ago. He now practices law in Lake Bluff.

 

Scott says his military experience was in valuable. Why should someone join the military instead of college after high school? He said it was a form of real world college that prepared him for college and life. After his political experiences he feels: “Officials should serve the people who elected them”.
