Rich Babjak opened the meeting, Bill Rickert gave the Pledge, Glenn Garlick led us in prayer, and Dennis Kratohwil led us in a song about our kids. President Rich gave a second prayer in remembrance of his daughter Hannah who would have been 28 today.

 

-Kim Smith reported that her group raised $6393.00 in the Volley for Life fundraiser for the American Heart Association.

 

-Bill Rickert got his second hole in one at Prairie Isle.

 

-Elliot Pinsel recently visited Washington, DC and saw a group of Honor Flight veterans at the Lincoln Memorial. He also played golf with his brother and: “will never do that again”!

Dennis Kratohwil held a contest for the best joke.   

 

Today’s program was Amanda Bennett from Kindred Life Ministry. This group is helping teen parents to thrive. There are 4500 babies born to teens annually in the US. 174 in Lake County last year. 50% 0f teen moms drop out of school. 100% of teens who go through their 3-year program go on to higher education. Teen parents are more likely to end up in poverty. Kindred offers a hand up to young parents. They are committed to personal growth.

 

Their solution is one to one mentoring. They do individual and group counseling. They offer life services such as financial assistance for childcare, goal setting, tutoring, and financial coaching. There are 2 offices in Gurnee and Mundelein and are opening a new building in Milwaukee. We can help by getting involved. They are conducting a “sippy cup” drive where each participant is given a sippy cup to accept contributions. Their alumni are eligible for financial aid. Referrals come from schools and churches.
