BULLETIN – June 19, 2024

President Babjak opened his last meeting. Bob Zamor gave the pledge, Doug Fendon led us in prayer and Dennis Kratohwil helped us through a rendition of “Summertime Blues”. Our recording contract is eminent! Dennis was wheeled for not turning off the music during guest introductions.
BRAGS:
-Ron Lapins’ 9-year-old grandson played on the team that won the Deerfield Championship.
-Bill Rickert recommends the documentary “Relentless Patriot”.
-Jeff Harger attended 2 family reunions and celebrated his mother’s 97th birthday!
-Happie Datt’s daughter got married recently in her backyard. Despite rain and cicadas, the event was a rousing success. They danced in the rain.
-Howard has been married for 49 years to Saint Beverly.
-Scott attended a 5-course tasting dinner at Chrissoulas Restaurant in Libertyville. A great venue.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-Rotary birthdays: Dave Potts - June 25th, Diana Servos – June 30th.
-Installation Dinner is June 26th at Tom Zengler’s house. NO MORNING MEETING.
-There will be no morning meeting on July 3rd.
-Financing was approved for a new Club website. Call Jon Robb if you are interested in serving on the committee.
-The next service project is with Habitat for Humanity on July 31st.
-The Passport Club was formed during Covid by Ellen Young. They are disbanding and 4 or 5 members will be joining our Club.
-$3k was approved at the May Board meeting for a global grant which will be part of a $360k grant to ship urgently needed medical equipment to the Chitokoloki mission hospital in Zambia. The project is being organized by the Wilmette Club and expects grant approval in July.
-Jim Curtis has free tickets for the Lake County Symphony who will be performing an American Salute at the Gurnee Community Center on July 4th.
FUN & FROLICS:
Ron Lapins entertained us with a James Bond matching quiz.
PROGRAM:
Today’s program was a report on the fundraising this year and Jon Robb’s plans for the coming year.
We raised $151k at the fundraiser. It was our best year ever! The board approved $99,500 to support 37 local charities. This money will be distributed starting with breakfast on July 10th. We also put money into reserve and committed to supporting Shelter Box when needed and to spruce up Rotary Park. We also reserved money for international sponsorships, service projects and scholarships. A great year!
Incoming President Jon Robb is looking for suggestions. The recent survey is still relevant. We may or may not have night meetings next year. Every 5th Wednesday should involve spouses. We may try meeting in different locations to increase visibility. We have 2 challenges. 1. Attract new members. 2. Increase fundraising from sources outside the club. It was suggested that we hear about the avenues of service. If you have suggestions, please contact Jon at: 847 323 9201.
Rich Babjak gave his final thanks for a great year.
RAFFLE:
-Daily: $32. Won by Tom Zengler.
-Progressive: $447 (34 cards). Dennis Kratohwil drew the 8 of clubs. ROLLOVER!
NEXT WEEK:
The next meeting will be July 10th. It will be the first charitable giving breakfast.
