President Babjak opened the meeting; Carol August gave the Pledge and Steve Risley led us in prayer.

There was no song.

 

-Sadly, Past President Greg Hill is leaving to return to Iowa. He will be with us through March.

-Carol August’s son got engaged.

-Tom Miller’s daughter gave birth recently to Tom’s 7^th grandchild. He weighed in at 9 lb. 10 oz!

 

-Bulletin editor(s) needed. TOTAL IMMUNITY!

-Scott Hezner is putting together a bowling event tentatively scheduled February 7^th at Bowlero.

-The January 31^st meeting will be in the evening at Mickey Finn’s at 6 pm. Bring prospective new members.

-Our next community service project is February 22 at Keeping Families Covered. Volunteers needed to pack.

-Rich Schoeneman is looking for bottles for the silent auction. Bourbon and wine are needed.

-Howard Jaffe gave us a fundraiser update. We can still use sponsors. We need silent auction items. Kim Smith is collecting them at the Centre Club. Posters are available today. We have sold 135 tickets. 560 to go! Email is going out next week on the talent. New cast this year. Some from last year have been promoted. Tickets will be distributed the last 3 Fridays before the event. This will cut down on the will call.

 

Past District Governor Lyle Staub and Mary Bak were on hand to tell us about the Foundation and to present an award. The Foundation was established in 1917 with $26.50 which was the profit from the Convention in Kansas City. By 1929 it had grown to $500 and was donated to an organization that later became Easter Seals. By the time of Paul Harris’ death in 1947, It had grown to $1.3 million and was spent on scholarships. Today it is $1.3 billion. Our Club has donated $510,000 since starting in 1987!

Rich Schoeneman conducted a mini bags tournament.

 

Today’s program was Lisa Roti from Catholic Charities. Lisa told us that they offer programs for seniors, children, families and individuals who are in crisis mode. They provide maternity and adoption counseling. They have a youth mentoring program for kids 9 to 12 conducted in Waukegan and Round Lake one hour per week. They provide adult protective services for those being abused including elder abuse.

They distributed 10,000 Christmas gifts to needy individuals last year. Their warehouse was in Libertyville. Volunteers are always needed. Community outreach includes evening suppers, school supplies, and a diaper depot. They have a clothing room in Round Lake where the needy can find donated clothing. They also have food pantries. Volunteers are needed to staff all locations. They are in need of receptionists in Waukegan and Round Lake. They have gardens in both locations that provide food for the pantries and the community suppers.
