President Rich Babjak opened the meeting, Bob Zamor gave the Pledge, yours truly led us in prayer, and guest song Meister Tom Miller led us in his rendition of the Hamm’s beer jingle.

 

-Our own Mary Cole has declared her candidacy for Lake County States Attorney!

 

-Patricia Bleck’s youngest daughter Emma attends the U of I and has secured an internship with Eli Lilly in Indianapolis.

 

-Robin O’Connor participated in a Habitat for Humanity event with Carol August. Apparently, they worked harder than they are accustomed to!

 

-Scott Hezner went to Wisconsin with fellow Rotarian Tom Miller. Tom allegedly pulled off the very difficult trick of wearing 2 belts without knowing!

 

-Highway cleanup is scheduled for Saturday at Sunset Foods at 7 am.

 

-Pumpkinfest is scheduled for October 21, 2023, at 8:30 am at Cook Park. The signup sheet is on the front desk.

 

-The Club is trying 3 evening meetings to attract new members. The first meeting will be October 25 at 6:15 pm at Mickey Finn’s. Invite someone who can’t make our morning meetings.

 

-The Village Quilters will have a quilting show October 20 and 21 at College of Lake County. There will be 287 quilts on display. Visit villagequilters.org for information and to buy a chance on the drawing for a large quilt valued at $8,000.

 

-Elliot Pinsel will be conducting his 32^nd ornament gift drive. If you know a needy family, please let him know. The ornaments will be available soon with a pickup scheduled for early December.

 

-Blankets were collected for the Journey Homeless Shelter.

Rob Likus entertained us with a quiz on the US Senate.

 

Today’s program was Jan Adelman from Reach Rescue. Reach is located next to Garden Fresh in Mundelein. Reach works hard to save dogs, some with medical needs. They are 100% foster based and 100% volunteers. They have a group of some 50 to 60 foster families and have saved over 500 animals last year alone.

 

Reach rescues dogs from all over the US. They recently rescued 20 dogs from a trailer in Merrillville, Indiana. Jan had a dog from Indiana with her. They have amazing foster families. There are no dogs on their premises. They supply everything including items for dogs with medical needs.

 

They have purchased 3 acres across from Dover Straits for a new 9000 sq ft building. The facility will house their offices, a resale shop and space for training. They hope to break ground in the Spring. There is an application process to foster or rescue an animal. Information and applications can be found at inforeachrescue.org. They are currently fostering 59 dogs and cats. They have an open house on Saturdays from noon to 4.
