President Greg Hill opened the meeting with a pledge and a prayer, but no one quite had the energy to sing a song.

 

BRAGS:

Doug Fendon took a two week vacation in Spain and he lost so much weight that his pants began to fall down when he had to take off his belt for the security check.

 

Tony Collins went fishing in Minnesota and got to watch the Eagles swoop down every day to swipe the fish he caught.  He reported that it was a magnificent sight.

 

Steve Risley watched the Bears play live in London over the weekend.

 

Bill Rickert traveled to Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, and his trip included celebrating at the Octoberfest in Munich.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

We will have no meeting on October 30, because it is a fifth Wednesday; however, we will have no alternate activity either, because we are saving our money to throw a really big bang whopper of a holiday party this year.  If I were you I would not miss that bash.

 

We are also canceling our meeting on November 27, because it is the day before Thanksgiving.

 

Our 2020 winter fund-raiser will be held on March 13, and it will have a Saint Patrick’s Day theme.

 

Tom Zengeler has begun his annual coats for veterans drive.  You may drop off coats at Zengeler Cleaners thru November 3.

 

Tim Dempsey needs volunteers for the Pumpkinfest on October 19.

 

Mother’s Trust will be holding a battle of the bartenders on Saturday October 12, 7:00 p.m.  Event will be held at the Gorton Community Center.  Check with Larry Neal for details.

 

Libertyville High School will be holding an Art Impact project on Wednesday October 16.  Larry Neal is looking for volunteers for the program.

 

 

Richard Mittelman quizzed us on events that happened on this day in history.  Only one member of the club knew that when religious dissident, Roger Williams was banished from Massachusetts in 1635, he set out to found Rhode Island, and being a modest fellow that he is that individual requested that I not mention his name in the bulletin.  Then after our quiz we played a Pumpkin Word Search game.  It was like having two fun and frolics in one.

 

 

This week our program was our own Patrick Schwartz who spoke about the organization he runs, Love Inc of Lake County.

 

Love Inc. practices love in the name of Christ and has been serving Lake County for twenty-five years.  The organization attempts to bring the resources of churches together to help poor people.  Many of their clients are single mothers, who have been in abusive relationships, and have no way to support themselves.  Love Inc. works with approximately fifty churches in Lake County and they think of themselves as helping the churches serve the needy rather than directly serving the needy.

 

Love Inc is best known for the furniture they deliver to poor families, and they also provide the needy with other necessities such as dishes, toilet paper and other household items.  However, the organization considers meeting the immediate physical needs of their clients to be of secondary importance.   They want to address the causes of poverty, and to accomplish this mission they feel they have to come along people and build a solid relationship.

 

Love Inc receives approximately eight hundred calls a month, and the volunteers who take the calls are focused on getting to know the callers and to learn their stories.  In their effort to build relationships with the needy they also conduct life skill classes and some of the volunteers become mentors for individual clients.

 

 

John McDonald won the $22.00 weekly drawing, but Bill Rickert failed to win the progressive pot of $371.00 when he pulled the Ten of Hearts.  Keep trying Bill
