President Greg Hill opened the meeting with a pledge and a prayer, and our songmeister, Dennis Kratohwil led us is a rousing rendition of “If Your Happy and You Know it Clap Your Hands,” which brought a tear to many an eye.

 

BRAGS:

Bill Taranowski mentioned that his daughters, Laura and Claire, were named Wildcat of the Week for their stunning performance in tennis and volley ball.

 

Dave Ritland is heading up a project called Gift of Security in which several non-profits will receive a free video surveillance system.  He invited members of the club to submit names of non-profits to be considered for this assistance.   

 

Tony Collins has completed twenty-six years of marital bliss, which I think is a commendable achievement, even though I will point out with pride that this is not the club record.

 

Jeff Harger has been awarded two significant design projects. He will be helping to build One Oak Square, which will be the sixth tallest building in Chicago, and he be helping with the renovation of Tribune Tower.

 

Doug Fendon bragged that his daughter moved out of the house after a nine temporary visit and is now an inhabitant of the great city of Chicago.  He also was very happy to inform us that we have two new members coming into the club.

 

Scott Hezner is working on a 22,000 square foot development on the site of the old Mundelein Village Hall.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Elliot Pinsel has five hundred ornaments to pass out to provide for holiday gifts for the needy.  He will be bringing a bus to our December 11 meeting to pick up the donations.

 

On December 4, we will be holding our holiday party in lieu of our morning meeting at the Post Time in Libertyville.

 

We will have a board meeting, next Tuesday, November 12, at the Pet Factory.

 

On November 19 we will hold the kickoff meeting for our next fund-raiser at the Pet Factory.  

 

Scott Hezner announced that our project at the American Legion had been postponed to spring with a date to be announced.

 

We will be ringing bells for the Salvation Army on December 7.  Expect your assignments shortly.

 

Tucker Olson forgot that this was his week to do Fun & Frolics.  He tried to fake it by having folks singing from the Rotary song book, but some of his audience suggested that the more honorable approach for him would have been to pay everyone’s fines rather than subjecting them to this ordeal.

 

Our program this week was presented by Susan Sunling from Mother’s Trust.

 

She showed us a film of one major recent project which the Trust worked on, called Prom Shop, which distributed prom dresses to high school students in Lake County who might not otherwise be able to attend these formal events.  Our own Tom Zengeler, who has organized a similar project for many years in Cook County, contributed his expertise in getting this project off the ground.  They collected three thousand dresses and offered the garments to any student with a valid high school I.D.  They did not try to pass judgement on which girls deserved this help, because they did not want to embarrass the girls in real financial need by singling them out.

 

Susan also discussed several other projects that the Trust is currently involved in such as obtaining winter clothing, which they have suddenly received a lot of requests on because of the early snow. Another benefit that the Trust frequently provides is to pay delinquent school fees for high school graduates, because the schools refuse to provide transcripts until these fees are paid.  Sometimes when a student is in a consolidated school district he or she has fees running back to first grade, and the total could run into the thousands of dollars.  Mother’s Trust will try to negotiate these fees down before they pay them.   

 

Jeff Harger passed a hat today to collect donations for the food pantry in its effort to provide holiday food baskets for their clients, and he collected an amazing $1,881.00.

 

Patricia Bleck won our $36.00 weekly raffle, and Tucker Olson failed to win the $464.00 progressive pot when he pulled the Queen of Clubs.  Then Brad Gutzler closed out the show by winning the special prize of a cook book, which I am sure as a newly-wed he will be able to put to great use.
