Tom Gore rang the bell, Doug Fendon gave the Pledge, Greeter Ellen Young led us in prayer, and Song Meister Dennis Kratohwil, in honor of National Tequila Day, played the song Tequila.

 

-Dennis Kratohwil just returned from a 3-day conference in Milwaukee and had his grandkids for a week.

 

-Glenn Garlick told us the District collected over $ 1 million for the Foundation last year. Our Club gave $22,900 in annual gifts and $43,487 to Polio Plus. There are 14 million kids in the world who can’t get vaccinated. You can join Polio Plus for $8.54 per month!

-Jon Robb gave a shout out for the Installation Dinner. A great success (probably because he is now retired!) He handed out perfect attendance pins.

-Volunteers are needed for the MainStreet Art Fair. See Tom Gore if you can man the booth.

Today’s program was Rachel Loeber from Advocate Condell Hospital. Condell is the largest hospital in Lake County. It is a Level 1 Trauma Center with some patients coming from southern Wisconsin. Condell has 275 beds and a large medical staff. They conduct the most surgeries in the County and treated 260,000 outpatients. The ER has experienced rapid growth with more than 60,000 patients in 2024.

The Women’s Health Center saw 964 births in 2023 and 1400 in 2024. 153 babies needed special care in the New Life Center. The Center has all private rooms and a special care nursery. They employ 14 board certified physicians and 77 nurses. They teach prenatal classes and have pre delivery services focused on patient experience. They have a breast milk depot for mothers who can’t produce milk. They are rated the best maternity hospital in the Advocate network by U S News and World Report with a rating of 97 out of 100. They offer different options for labor and mothers spend less time in the hospital. They also focus on the mental health of mothers.

Advocate is committed to health equity. They help everyone with different resources, Maternity equipment is more expensive, and they rely on donations to pay some of the cost. They have a local foundation team headed by Lauren Parquette. They have different levels of sponsorship and are having an event called “Evening of Excellence” on October 18^th at Knollwood Country Club. The beneficiary will be the New Life Center. The Rotary Foundation was founded by Art Kumpf in 1917 with a total donation of $26.50. The fund had grown to $500 by 1930 and now totals $4.4 billion.

 

Greeter Ellen Young forgot to put out the Flag. Pleading ignorance of that part of her duties, she was let off the hook!
