Subbing past President Jeff Harger rang the big, beautiful bell and gave the Pledge. Greeter Jim Curtis led us in prayer. Once again there was no song!
BRAGS:
-There were no brags! This put a hole in our Fun & Frolics revenue forecast for the last quarter!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-Howard Jaffe has tickets for events the Club is sponsoring as part of our charitable giving efforts. The Events are Bravo Waukegan – April 19th, The Haven Gala – May 2, Reading Power – May 6th, Zacharias Center – May 8th.
-Jon Robb said our fifth Wednesday event will be at Coppolillo’s on Cook Avenue. Email with details to follow.
-Rich Babjak is seeking donations for Misericordia. See Rich for details.
-We participated in the Rockegan event sponsored by Youth Conservation Corps.

PROGRAM:
Today’s program was Jim Wojdyla, Marketing Director for the Volo Car Museum. The museum began as a family business on a 75-acre dairy farm in Volo in 1960. They sold antiques and collected cars in the first barn. They developed an antique mall housing 300 vendors. They installed floors in 5 showrooms and remodeled them. They sold cars and reinvested the proceeds in the business. They noticed that men came and brought their families. In the early 90’s they decided to become a family entertainment location. By that time, they were selling 8 – 900 collector cars. The cars were frame up restorations and they were also building restomods which are restored classic cars with modern features and power. They had grown to 4 showrooms.
They had the opportunity to buy some Hollywood movie cars and that display was a huge hit. They expanded on the Hollywood theme with planes, boats and a train. They also built a Duesenberg building to house cars from the 20’s and 30’s. They have tractor, military and camper collections. They purchased Disney parade cars, kiddy rides and arcade games. They created a gangster museum to display. Covid forced a shut down for 1 and a half years. Car sales kept them going. After Covid, they came up with the idea of recreating Jurassic Park. They built a Jurassic Garden with animatronic dinosaurs along with a reptile exhibit. They also included an ice age exhibit. New ideas a constantly being thought of and evaluated. An interesting place to visit.
