Our president Rich Schoeneman returned to continue his leadership through these trying times, and he opened the meeting with a pledge and a prayer, but no song.

 

Elliott Pinsel received a Drum Major award for his holiday contribution, and he accepted it on behalf of all those who have assisted him with the project.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Tom Stanczyk who happened to be celebrating his birthday on Wednesday received a $1,702.00 check to cover his last week winnings of the progressive raffle.

Our Rotary minute this week reminded us that among its many good works, Rotary awards international scholarships.

 

Greg Hill reported a successful volunteer evening shucking cabbage at the Northern Illinois Food Bank on January 19.

 

Bob Zamor has been appointed our club ambassador to the upcoming Rotary District conference and the Rotary International Conference.

 

Richard Schoeneman are putting together a team for the virtual golf worldwide fundraiser to eradicate polio, so contact them if you would like to participate.

 

We continue to move forward on preparation for hour winter fundraiser on Saturday February 26, at 6:00 p.m. Ticket sales and auction donations are rolling in at a reasonable pace, so keep up the good work. We could especially use bottle donations for our wine and bourbon baskets. Also Steve Risley announced that he plans to attend his niece’s wedding on the day of the fundraiser, so he would appreciate if you got your auction items in before the last minute.

 

 

Seb Karasu kicked off an exciting spice trivia quiz for fun and frolics this week.  I was reprimanded for not knowing that garlic is an herb rather than a spice, but from my ignorant start I am proud to say I learned a lot.  Did you know that the Greeks really took their yogurt from the Bulgarians and that there are 32,000,000 Americans with food allergies.

 

 

Our speaker today was Doug Meffley from Honor Flight Chicago.  Honor Flight Chicago flies veterans to Washington D.C. for a day to visit war memorials and other sights. The organization was founded in 2008, and so far it has flown 6,000 World War II veterans, 2000 Korean War Veterans, and 800 Vietnam War veterans to Washington.  Several of our members have taken the flight as volunteer escorts for the veterans.

 

 

After the big prize was claimed last week, we trickled off to a slow start, with Ron Lapin deciding to make slower by including the jokers in the deck of cards this time.  We had $27.00 in the weekly drawing, which was won by Greg Hill.  We also had $27.00 in the “big” pot with 54 card left in the deck.  Patricia Bleck tried for the progressive, but drew a joker, triggering a rollover.
