BULLETIN – February 11, 2026

Standing in for Tom Gore, Tom Miller rang the bell, Larry Neal gave the Pledge. Greeter John McDonald led us in prayer. Our prayers were answered when no one volunteered to do a song!
BRAGS:
-Bob Zamor just returned from a trip to Guatemala where he helped build a 30 x 100 school dormitory with 75 bunk beds for 152 girls.
-Carol August bragged that the Food Pantry feeds 400 families every month.
-Hank Clemmensen testified at the US Senate. He then went on a trip to Iceland where it was warmer than here!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-Howard Jaffe told us that we have 350 more tickets to sell for the Fundraiser. If each member can sell 4 tickets, we can sell out. We have a talented cast. Of the 24 cast members performing, 7 have appeared on the main stage and 7 have performed on the ETC stage. They compete to do our show and 60 % is made up. The cast will do an improv set after the show. We have posters and postcards to get the word out about the event. Howard will be assigning seats starting this weekend.
-Rich Schoeneman told us the drill manufacturer for the Eswatini project is donating the transportation for the well drill. Our Board approved a $4000 donation to the project.
-Scott Hezner reminded us that mock interviews at LHS will take place on March 3rd. Please sign up. The kids will be prepared.
FUN & FROLICS:
Ron Lapins gave us a quiz with different categories of trivia.
PROGRAM:
Today’s program was Brett Weiss from the Weiss Foundation. He established the foundation in memory of his parents. 80% of kids in Africa get little or no education. There seems to be a lack of will to solve problems. He has adopted a holistic business mode. Kids need more than money. They have 8 people on the ground in Kenya. Nobody visits kids except his foundation. They have awarded 351 total scholarships with 50% to boys and 505 to girls. If a girl is pregnant, she cannot go to school. In this case, work is brought from school. As and Bs are rare in Kenya.
Brett is a member of the Naperville Rotary Club. His foundation has grown from one to 5 partners including nonprofits and Rotary Clubs. Students must pay for a high school degree. They don’t always have food, medicine, plumbing or electricity. There is gender inequality. Ther are usually 3 languages to learn, tribal, English and Swahili. Students must write 4 essays. They have a strong sense of community, and a respect for elders. High School is 3 years. 90% of students are Christian. Test scores have skyrocketed in his group of students. They are working toward sustainability. Education gets students out of poverty.

-To correct last week’s Bulletin, an extra $132 was donated to the Food Pantry:
Glenn Garlick donated $100, and Carol August donated $32 from her raffle winnings.
