Soon to be Immediate Past President Rich Schoeneman presided over this week’s meeting, and Dennis Kratohwil led us in singing “America the Beautiful.”

 

Steve Risley informed us with great pride that his second grandchild, Aida, was born on June 21.

Tucker Olson pulled off a landslide win in his unopposed primary election bid to join the county board.  Keep on fighting Tucker.

 

Seb Karasu announced the sad passing of her brother at the age of 64.  She attended the funeral in Turkey.

 

Scott Hezner bragged about all of our club members who helped preserve democracy by working in the primary election on Tuesday.

 

Ron Lapin bragged that Monday was his daughter’s 13^th wedding anniversary and his grandson’s 10^th birthday.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

At the meeting today we passed out perfect attendance awards to the following Rotarians: Steve Risley 1year; Bob Zamor 6 years; Tim Dempsey 10 years; Pat Hart 28 years, Jeff Harger 31 years; Bill Rickert 35 years.  We also recognized birthdays this week for David Potts, Diana Servos, and Tucker Olson

 

The Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club has won the Shelter Box Gold Hero award.

 

This week we announced the winners in our six month contest for top fun & frolics master of ceremonies, and coming in first place, by popular vote of his peers, was Bill Taranowski with his nail balancing game.  There were so many examples of other excellent entertainment though that our outgoing president could not hold back his enthusiasm, and he decided to pass out ten additional fabulous runner up awards. Congratulations  Bill, and three cheers for all the other guys and gals who each week put the fun back in dysfunctional.

 

Rich Shoeneman reminded us of some of the club’s accomplishment this Rotary year, including contributing over $172,000.00 to charity, admitting five new members, and completing eight community service projects.

 

Patricia Bleck has been named Rotarian of the Year for her fine support of the club.  Congratulations Patricia.

 

Bob Zamor has received the Rotary Spirit Award for his awesome help in our endeavors.

 

Doug Fendon led the room in a standing ovation to show our appreciation for the dynamic and enthusiastic leadership which Rich Schoeneman has given us in the past year.

 

 

Jeff Harger was also thanked for serving as assistant district governor.

 

Kevin Stevens thanked us for helping him have a great year as district governor and said our club helped inspire him to want to be district governor.

 

Installation golf will be on Thursday, June 30. 

 

Glenn Garlick ou district end polio chairman presented our club with a $100.00 check in recognition of our club membership being more than 50% Polio Plus contributors 

 

Bob Zamor announced his intention this week to present the fastest Fun & Frolics in the history of Western Civilization, and I think he might have succeeded.  He just had everyone draw a card and charged the high card holders $2.00 instead of $3.00.

 

This week the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club presented the Service Above Self Award to George Capaul.

 

This award goes to non-Rotarians who have made outstanding contributions to their communities which exemplify the Rotary motto of Service Above Self.

 

George Capaul served in Vietnam and has been active in the American Legion for 32 years. Over this period he has held most of the offices in this organization and has undertaken many projects for the legion.  His cohorts mentioned in particular his skills as a bingo facilitator and as a bartender at various legion social gatherings.  He was also been a major force behind the refurbishing of the American Legion Post in Libertyville. 

 

Mr. Capaul is also active in Lake County Chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers where he has served as scholarship chair and overseen the math competition. 

 

And as his neighbor Tim Smyth points out “George is a real nice guy.”

 

When asked to say a few words, George turned the attention away from himself and took the opportunity to thank his wife Diana, who is a professional secretary and who has given him so much assistance over the years in his community service projects.   

 

Wanting to end his long and illustrious career as sergeant at arms with a bang, Ron Lapin wheeled not one but two members for not signing in.  Doug Fendon and Jeff Harger both paid fines.

 

Tucker Olson came out the winner in our weekly drawing, taking home thirty-one crisp freshly printed U.S. dollars.  Doug Fendon proved not so lucky though when he went for the progressive pot of $554.00, and drew the five of diamonds rather than the ace of spades out of our 35 remaining cards.
