BULLETIN – March 6, 2024 by Rich Schoeneman
President Babjak opened the meeting and called on Schoeneman to give the Pledge.
Schoeneman then led us in prayer.
BRAGS: Steve Risley bragged of his recent recovery from an emergency appendectomy just in time to attend his daughter’s rehearsal dinner and wedding……and of course to attend the Second City event.
Bob Zamor bragged that the dates and projects for his upcoming service trip to Guatemala are set. He told the Club that there are still openings for the May 2nd – May 12th trip to Ak Tenamit.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: President Babjak reminded us that we are still in need of a Bulletin Editor and that until we fill the position, the member assigned to Greeter & Prayer will be responsible for getting the Bulletin information when Tim Dempsey, our only current editor, is not in attendance.
The Club is planning a “Shooting Clays” event on May 9th at 5pm.
We are also planning a service project doing habitat restoration in a forest preserve on March 26th.
Our first highway cleanup will take place this April.
SPECIAL EVENT: Glenn Garlick presented Jim Curtis with his 3rd Level Paul Harris recognition. Congratulations, Jim!

FUN & FROLICS: Patricia Bleck challenged us all to a Ping-Pong tournament (on a rather challenging table) while informing us of some of the nuanced rules. The Champions were the table: Lapins, McDonald, Miller, and Schachner with Zamor graciously kept in a distant coaching position (really..did you see him trying to flip coins a couple of weeks ago). Do we see a traveling trophy in the future, Patricia?
PROGRAM:
Howard Jaffe presented today’s program about the final details regarding this weekend’s Second City Fundraiser. There are still 100 tickets available although a hearty 500 have been sold. Selling those remaining tickets would benefit our charities an additional $10,000. We also still need to remember that there are raffle tickets and silent auction items to purchase. The raffle winner will be drawn at the “After Party at Austin’s” following the event, while the silent auction will remain open until 12:01 pm. Sunday. Howard also noted that there is a direct “Donate” button on our site for members and guests to consider as well
Tickets can be picked-up at Mickey Finns this Friday or at LHS will-call from noon the day of the event, and Howard asked that Rotarians use the back parking lot at LHS.
Finally, we were informed that the final numbers from the event will not likely become available until early April, due to credit card billing and other factors…….so don’t bug him……just know that it was a fantastic job by the Committee and it will be a great success!!
RAFFLE: -Daily Raffle of $33 was won by Glenn Garlick, and
the Progressive was $119 with a lot of cards remaining. Sadly, Jon Robb drew the 9 of Diamonds. ROLLOVER!
