BULLETIN – June 12, 2024

President Rich Babjak opened the meeting and asked Scott Hezner to start the Pledge. Glenn Garlick led us in prayer and Dennis Kratohwil helped us through “Proud to be an American”. 

 

-Elliot Pinsel is leaving for Switzerland for 2 weeks and thanked Rich Babjak for doing a good job as President. Elliot has the boot that will go to Rich when he retires as President.

-Rich Babjak recently lost his mom. She was a great lady!

-Dave Potts traveled to England, France and Spain.

 

-Rotary Anniversaries: Jim Curtis and Mary Cole, 2 years on June 15^th. John Blair, 10 years on June 18^th.

-Birthdays: Bill Rickert on June 14^th.

-Installation Golf is scheduled for June 21^st.

-Installation Dinner is June 26^th at Tom Zengeler’s house. No morning meeting that day.

-Patricia Bleck advised that we have a service project at Libertyville Days. Help is needed with the parade and the sale of beer tickets.

The Lake County Symphony is having a concert on July 4^th. See Jim Curtis for details.

 

Today we inducted and welcomed a new member to the Club, Charles Lesser. Charles is originally from Bloomington, Illinois and graduated from Illinois State. He has been married for 3 years and moved to Libertyville one year ago. He works for his family wealth management firm in Hinsdale. Rich Schoeneman is his sponsor. Welcome Charles!

 

Dennis Kratohwil entertained us with a matching quiz. We had to match destinations in songs to how we get there.

 

Today’s program was Kalie Schultz who is the Development Coordinator for the Lake County Haven.

Kalie grew up in Minneapolis and has lived in Seattle and Montpellier, France. She graduated from the University of Minnesota and pursued a career in events planning including weddings and large parties, finally moving to corporate events. She was unhappy with her career and made a change to the non-profit world ending up at the Haven. She lives in Lake Zurich with her husband and two sons.

Kalie has been at the Haven for 3 years. The Haven has 3 shelters in Libertyville and helps women from all backgrounds to find shelter and get back on their feet. The Haven was formed 32 years ago to help homeless women and has aided over 900 women. The Haven was started in 1992 by a Deacon at the Presbyterian Church in Lake Forest. He found that there was a lack of support for homeless women. Their referrals come mostly from churches. They have recently acquired a new house that needs work. 

Kalie thanked us for our support over the years. Their funding comes from the community, clubs and churches.
