President Richard Schoeneman opened this week’s meeting with a pledge and a prayer, followed by songmeister Dennis Kratowhil leading us in the Olympics song, which got a little awkward when he could not remember the words.

 

Scott Hezner bragged about the club’s fantastic Bocce Ball event last Thursday. 

 

 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Today we resumed our tradition of passing the hat once a month to collect for the Libertyville Township Food Pantry.

 

With the October 2 and October 9 dates for the North Shore Wine Festival at Main Street Social fast approaching we were reminded that there will only be 125 tickets available for each date, and everyone is therefore advised not to wait to buy yours.  Tickets are $150.00 per person or $200.00 per couple, which includes a $75.00 credit toward purchasing wines. Doug Fendon also asked for any help he could get in selling sponsorships for the event.

 

Next week at our morning meeting we will be giving out checks to ten of the of thirty-one charities whom we are supporting this year.  We will continue the distributions at our morning meetings on August 18th and 25^th.

 

There will be a club board meeting on Tuesday, August 10 at 5:00 p.m. by Zoom.

 

Rotary is sponsoring two service trips to Guatemala in October and November this year, which our members are invited to participate in.  Contact Bob Zamor for details.

 

This week we had a special fun & frolics with David Ritland taking us outside to play a rousing game of Cornhole, in which we all tossed sixteen ounce bags of corn kernels into a hole on a flat target.  Richard Babjak, who has apparently spent a lot more time hanging around holes in corn fields than the rest of us, turned out to be the undisputed champion. I noted on the internet that there is a push to add Cornhole to the next Olympics, so maybe in 2024 Richard can bring home another Gold Medal for Team USA.

 

 

 

Our speaker this week was Charlotte Allen a nationally renowned speaker and consultant as well as a best-selling author.  Her topic was Rebel Success for Leaders.

 

Ms. Allen has three key principals, which she wanted us all to remember as we carry out our leadership roles in our community:

 

1. Find your voice.  Finding your voice enables you to empower yourself and your people.

 

2. Seek out your opposition.  Friction is important in spurring on creativity, and hanging around solely with people who agree with you will not result in the friction necessary to lead to innovation.

 

3. Channel your magnetism.  Everyone should want to be a magnet for their visions rather than for bad breaks.  We have to strive to meet the right people and make the right connections.

 

Steve Risley bravely faced the music this week for missing Fun & Frolics and Bingo last week.  He agreed to take Fun & Frolics next week as part of his punishment, and he also paid $5.00 after spinning the wheel.  

 

Patricia Bleck went for the progressive pot this week of $825.00 with 27 cards left, and joined a growing list of club members, who have recently stumbled in the dust while seeking this lofty goal.  Meanwhile Bill Rickert quietly walked away with  the weekly prize of $27.00
