Reporting virtually from Zoom. President Tom Zengeler called the meeting to order with John Blair and Tim Dempsey leading us with a prayer and pledge, respectively.
GUESTS:
-Rania Chakaki, Lyle Staab and Bruce Baumberger
BRAGS:
-Steve Risley saw Jon Robb at Mickey’s over the weekend and he is doing well. Steve is also heading down to Birmingham for his grandsons first birthday.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-Tom Zengeler read the weekly Rotary minute.
-Tom informed the group that former club member Dan Lutter passed away.
-The annual installation golf outing will be held on June 23rd and there are still spots available. Please refer to Doug Fendons email for additional details.
-The installation dinner will be held on June 30th at Tom Zengelers residence.
-There is still time to donate to the Rotary foundation before the end of the fiscal year June 30th.
-Bob Zamor and Patricia Bleck attended additional Rotary training recently.
-Scott Hezner celebrated the lives of three individuals close to him that recently passed away.
-Lyle Staab is hosting the June 2nd meeting and donated $50 in lieu of brags and other activities next week.

PROGRAM:
Rania Chakaki is an intern at the Borgen Project. The mission of the Borgen Project is to fight extreme poverty. The organization believes the leaders of the U.S. should be doing more to address global poverty and it campaigns to make poverty a focus of U.S. foreign policy.
The organization was founded in 2003 and is a national campaign with volunteers in 1,952 U.S. cities. It has multiple primary focus areas: Starvation/Global Food Security, Newborn, Child and Mother Survival, Access to Clean Water and Sanitation, Food Aid Reform and recently Covid-19.
The Borgen Project operates through four functions:
- Congressional Relations – they meet with U.S. leaders to build support for life-saving legislation and effective poverty-reduction programs
- Mobilize – they mobilize people across the globe behind efforts to make poverty a political priority
- Educate – they teach basic advocacy skills that allow citizens to communicate with their government
- Issue Message – they build awareness of global issues and innovations in poverty-reduction through their online and community presence
There are multiple ways to become involved and support the campaign. The organization encourages individuals to reach out to Congressional leaders in their district to advocate for poverty-reduction legislation. In addition, there are many volunteer/internship opportunities available in various functions of the group.
