Call to Order:  President Diana Taylor called the meeting to order.   The Pledge of Allegiance as led by Greg Hill, and prayer given by Tom Zengeler.  No song.

 

Guests:  Guest Speaker Lieutenant Jeff Schmidt, Libertyville Fire Department; Kevin Stevens, District Assistant Governor.  No other guests.

 

-Peggy Freese announced her daughter had a baby, Finley Ara Walsh, Peggy’s 2^nd grandchild.

-Pat Schwartz advised he had his boys home for the holidays and his second son was promoted to Sergeant in the US Marine Corps. 

 

-District Assistant Governor Kevin Stevens stated club members will receive an email with the District 6440 Individual Rotarian Survey.  He would like everyone to complete the survey as it is very beneficial to the direction of the District in the future.  This is primarily to share expertise among clubs.  He says it takes about 5 minutes to complete.  He also said he was selected to be the District Governor Nominee (Gov.  2021-2022).

 

-Greg Hill is looking for a good club member to fill the open President Elect position for 2019-2020.  Please advise Greg or a board member if you may be interested in this position.

-Jeff Harger advised Scott Hezner is doing OK following surgery.  Scott worked up the Club Survey (different from the District Survey) and would like everyone to take the time to fill it out and return it at the Rotary meeting next week.

 

-Diana Taylor mentioned the Winter Fundraiser tickets (4 each) were given out at this meeting.  We need to fill about 200 seats¸ so everyone is encouraged to sell 6 or more seats.  We also need auction items soon so Steve Risley doesn’t go crazy at the last moment the night before the function.  Checks should be made out to the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Foundation.  Gift certificates from restaurants are some nice auction items as well as sports, golf, and other events.   Doug Fendon suggested wine or bourbon bottles to make a nice gift basket.  This event is scheduled for March 1, 2019 at the Independence Grove Forest Preserve facility (same as last year).

 

Fun and Frolics:  Dave Potts did a putting contest with some exotic putters (one an all wood antique).

 

-Lieutenant Jeff Schmidt of the Libertyville Fire Department gave a presentation about the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Although the program started in 1985 with an earthquake, the Libertyville organization had its roots from the events of 9/11.  Then Fire Chief (and Rotary member) Bob Zamor initiated the Libertyville organization with members for local businesses, such as Abbott, Motorola, and the schools. The CERT program provides training on establishment of Disaster Preparation  with kits to enable families to survive 2-3 days, Fire Suppression, Medical Ops (basic), and Medical Ops II (triage situations), Search and Rescue, Psychology and Team Building, and Disaster Simulations.  Trained members are given hard hats and a backpack with basic survival materials for the trunk of one’s car.  They are also trained in use of radios, traffic and crowd control, flood operations, and firefighter rehab. The Libertyville Sunrise Rotary donated a CERT trailer to the Village Fire Department for emergency support. Currently there are 25 of the original 100 team members who are active.   New member training is provided when the need arises at the determination of the current fire chief and prospects are on a wait list.  The program is funded via Fire Department monies or local grants (no state grants).

 

Raffle:  $29 in the daily was won by Doug Fendon.  With $256 in the progressive, Greg Hill was unsuccessful in pulling the Ace of Spades, so the pot rolls once again.
