President Pinsel presided this week, and after our pledge and prayer we welcomed back our songmeister Dennis Kratohwil who after his long absence in Florida showed up this week to lead us in “Mama Says They’ll Be Days Like This.”

 

 

Richard Mittelman bragged about his dog who recently won a prize in a dog show.

 

 

Tom Gore with great pride announced the birth of  his grandchild.

 

Bill Taranowski has just returned from spending ten fantastic days in Italy and Spain.

 

Steve Risley who has participated in a number of honor flights informed us that he had gotten up at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday morning to drive an honoree to the airport, before coming to Rotary.  I would say considering how long he had been awake, Steve was not all that grumpy at the meeting.

Do not forget the blood drive our club is sponsoring after our June 7 meeting

 

Mary Bak our district governor elect joined us for breakfast this week, and she invited us all to come to the district installation dinner on June 28.

 

President Pinsel informed us that the club board is considering going to only one fund raiser a year,

 

Rich Babjak was in charge of fun and frolics this week, and he instructed the people at each table to have a discussion of what interests they had in common.  At my table we decided that we all like ice cream and eagles flying over waterfalls.

 

 

 

 

 

Carrie Futchko from Versiti Blood Center spoke at our meeting this week to provide us some information on the importance of donating blood in preparation for the blood drive which the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary will be hosting after our meeting on June 7.

 

Someone needs blood in the United States every two seconds, and blood donations in our country save four and a half million lives of year.  Some medical continue require a great deal of blood.  A liver transplant for example requires one hundred liters of blood to be successful.  The supply of blood has to be constantly replenished though, since blood can only be given to patients for forty-two days after it is donated.

 

Ms. Futchko emphasized how important it is to educate people on how necessary blood donations are to save lives, and whether you can give blood or not on June 7, she urges you to tell your friends and relatives about the event.

 

On Wednesday we had $25.00 in our weekly drawing and $82.00 in the progressive pot with 52 cards in the deck. Jim Curtis’ ticket was drawn first and daring the odds he went for the big bucks.  Unfortunately, he lost this gamble when he only drew the Queen of Spades, but hopefully he had fun.
