BULLETIN – May 27, 2026

President Tom Gore rang the bell, Bob Zamor gave the pledge and was welcomed back after an extended absence, Greeter Marco Amidei led us in prayer, and Dennis Kratohwil led us in song.

 

-Scott Hezner bragged that his wife retired after 31 years.

-Happy Datt bragged that her daughter got married in Hawaii and Happy hosted 3 visiting Rotarians from Sri Lanka. It was truly a multi-cultural experience!

-Jim Laverdiere dropped off books at Bernie’s Book Bank.

 

-The Installation Dinner will take place on July 22^nd at Tom Zengler’s house. Information to follow.

-We have several upcoming summer volunteer events;

     -Mainstreet Lunch in the Park – June 12^th and 26^th.

     -Libertyville Days Parade. June 20th. Rich Schoeneman asks for member participation. He suggests bringing family and friends. Please tell Rich if you can attend.  We will lead the parade and need to be at the Train Station parking lot by 9:30 for a 10:00 start!

     -Highway cleanup coordinated by Robin O’Connor. Meet at the Sunset Foods parking lot at 7 am on May 30^th.

-We support CPAH – Community Partners for Affordable Housing. They are having a fundraising event on June 25^th at 21 Mile Distillers. They have provided us with some tickets. Please see Howard Jaffe if you are interested in attending.

 

-Robin O’Connor entertained us with a matching game. Ex. Bonnie &?  (Clyde). 

 

Chris Hoff, Executive Director of the Lake County Health Department, gave us an overview of the Department and the services they provide. The Health Department was established by referendum in 1956 as a state-certified public health department. At that time, the staff consisted of a handful of people. Today, they are a public health accredited department with a budget of approximately $70 million that supports 52 separately funded programs. Approximately 1,000 professionals assist their daily mission of health promotion, illness prevention, and protection of the environment. For the last 30 years they have served the community as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), one of only a handful in the State.

In 2025, the Health Department was recognized as being in the top 20% of health centers across the country with special recognition for the improved health outcomes they help their clients reach. They celebrated 30 years of providing primary care (21,766 cases in 2025), dental (8,030 cases in 2025), and behavioral health services  (7,426 cases in 2025) through our federally qualified health center, and responded to the highest number of callers to our crisis behavioral health hotlines (222,374 cases in 2025). They also responded to infectious disease cases (2,345 cases investigated in 2025) to prevent further spread in the community. This included a case of infectious tuberculosis at a high school.
