We opened our meeting with a pledge and a prayer followed by Dennis Kratohwil leading us in singing “Thriller” in honor of Halloween, which is of course one of everyone’s favorite holidays

 

Tucker Olson bragged that Lake County is all prepared for the upcoming election with early voting and mail voting now available.  So do your patriotic duty and get out there to vote.

 

Doug Fendon informed us that he already voted early, because he will be out of town on election day, and he also took the time to brag again about his last trip to Cooperstown, where he had a great time, and he found some savory restaurants to dine at.

 

Eliot Pinsel reported on the interesting slice of life he observed during his recent attendance at the Genesee theater.  He was very impressed to witness a whole row of theater goers wearing facemasks to protect the health of their community, but then later on in the performance they removed their masks so they could share a joint.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Tom Zengeler is once again collecting coats for veterans.  You may drop off your contributions an any Zengeler Cleaners between now and Veterans Day.

 

Howard Jaffe reminded us that it is time for members of the Polio Society to make their annual donations.

 

Our Spirits, Wine and Cigar Festival is going live this Saturday October 29, at the Libertyville Civic Center from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  This is one of our major fundraisers, so even though sales of admission and raffle tickets are going well, keep telling your friends, so we can do even better, and be sure to show up for your shift if you volunteered to work at the event.

 

 

Richard Schoeneman brought a leftover case of beer from our golf league party, which he auctioned off at this week’s meeting, to raise future funds for the league.

 

 

This week Scott Hezner presented a thrilling no holds barred fun & frolics which included props and an assistant MC in the person of Doug Fendon.  The object of the game was to determine whether Scott was correctly representing the difference between Chicago’s time zone and the time zones of other exotic spots around the world.  Tucker Olson got a bit rowdy from all the excitement, but exercising some tough love, Scott quickly brought the room back to order by making the offender spin the wheel.  Tucker performed a touchdown dance as his punishment, although I am not sure he showed true remorse.

 

This week our speaker was Diana Schnell from Equestrian Connection.  Equestrian Connection is located on Bradley Road, just a hop, skip and a jump from where we hold our weekly breakfasts, and they employ horses to provide therapy for those in need. The organization serves approximately 300 clients a week, including adults with Parkinson disease or multiple sclerosis, veterans suffering from disabilities, and children from the inner city.  They sometimes produce remarkable results, such as several victims of Parkinson disease who have been able to give up their canes after ten weeks of therapy.

 

Equestrian Connection is a large organization with 48 employees, 24 horses, and three miles of trails.  They charge clients based on what they can afford to pay, which leaves them dependent on contributions to stay in operation. A horse costs $6,000.00 a year to care for.

 

The Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club has been a supporter of the organization for many years, and our contributions have recently enabled the purchase of a lift, which allows disabled riders to mount their horses.  They had a lift before, but it could only be used indoors, and this meant that clients who needed the extra assistance were restricted to inside riding.  Our lift works outside though, and riders who need its help now have access to the three miles of trails which Equestrian Connection has to offer.

 

 

 

This time we had $32.00 for a weekly prize, and $973.00 in our progressive pot with only 19 cards left.  Throwing all caution to the winds Richard Babjak went for the big bucks, and we all shed a tear when he only pulled the two of diamonds, forcing a roll over.  Dave Potts then won the weekly prize and looked quite content with the more modest returns on his investment.
