BULLETIN – February 7, 2024

Our President Rich Babjak opened the meeting, Scott Hezner gave the Pledge and Elliot Pinsel led us in prayer.

 

-Rick Mittelman thanked Scott Hezner for arranging the bowling outing on Monday. Rick’s son tried to buy a ticket to see Iowa star Caitlin Clark play against Northwestern, but single tickets were sold out. He bought a seasons pass to see the game which was cheaper than scalped tickets. The story was picked up by local and national media.

-Jeff Harger told us that an article about Scott Hezner’s plan for Mundelein’s future appeared in the Chicago Tribune.

 

-The bowling event on Monday featured 9 Rotarians and 2 spouses. Award winners included: Rick Mittelman with the most spares, Carol August with the most gutter balls, and Elliot Pinsel with the most strikes and high game.

-The Township Food Pantry thanked us for contributing holiday meals.

-The District Conference will be April 20^th this year.

-Our next evening meeting is February 21^st at Mickey Finns. This will be an opportunity to bring new member candidates.

-Our next community service project will be February 22^nd at 6 pm at Keeping Families Covered. See Patricia Bleck to volunteer.

-Howard Jaffe gave us a fundraiser update. There are 350 tickets left to be sold. We are sending mass emails to Mickey Finns, Centre Club and Club contact lists. The new system has been a challenge. Raffle ticket sales are $1000, far behind last year’s $10k. Tickets will be distributed at Mickey Finns from 4 to 8 on 2/23, 3/1 And 3/8. Auction bidding will open on 3/2 and close on 3/10. There will be a new Second City cast this year and we will publish a Playbill. We still need silent auction items. It is crunch time!

 

Bill Tananowski gave us an elaborate Rotary crossword puzzle. He put a lot of thought and effort into the puzzle. Great job Bill! 

PROGRAM:

Today’s program was Kevin Coleman from the Exercise Coach. Kevin’s career began at Coopers & Lybrand. He then worked for Continental Bank and then a private equity firm. The fund fell apart in 2008 and Kevin was looking for an opportunity. The first Exercise Coach was started 12 and ½ years ago in Lake Zurich. The founder discovered exercise equipment that measures resistance. He bought the company, Exerbotics and began franchising locations. Kevin started soon after in Libertyville and expanded to Palatine, Arlington Heights and Park Ridge. 

Their equipment, computer controls resistance and compares with past sessions. The computer measures force and shows output on a computer screen. A green line is displayed that shows past performance and a yellow line that shows the current session. The object is to keep the yellow line above the green line. The goal is to obtain momentary muscle failure. The body then begins rebuilding. 

Each session lasts 20 minutes. The object is to do 2 sessions per week. There are 7 strength exercises of 2 minutes per session. That is followed by 5 minutes of cardio exercise. The program appeals to busy people who are not comfortable with a typical gym setting. Each facility will have 4 clients at a time. Ages range from 13 to 92 at Kevin’s locations. Nutrition is discussed. The costs range from $150 to $497 per month.
