President Rich Babjak opened the meeting, Rick Mittelman gave the Pledge, and Bill Taranowski led us in prayer. No song!

-Our next service project is Feb 22^nd at 6 pm at Keeping Families Covered. It is a packing event. See Patricia Bleck for details.

-Lake County Symphony has a performance scheduled for Feb 3^rd at CLC. See Jim Curtis for details.

-Rich Schoeneman is assembling baskets for the fundraiser. He needs bottles of bourbon and wine.

 

 

-Tom Gore’s daughter works for Amron and submitted a suggestion that won a trip to Tokyo in 2022. Because of Covid, the trip was cancelled. She is now going this year.

-Scott Hezner’s firm got a contract to submit ideas to redesign downtown Mundelein. His proposal is on the village website.

 

-We have sold 175 tickets. 498 to go. Premium plus seats are going fast.

-Marketing video clips are available to send to your contacts. Posters are going up around town. Another mass email is going out this week. Mickey Finns and the Centre Club are mailing to their contacts.

-$320 raffle tickets have been sold so far. Last year we sold $10k. We can use more sponsors.

-The auction will be turned on 2 weeks prior to the event. 

-Tickets would make a great Valentines gift!

 

Diana Servos asked for stories to prepare her for parenting. Too many to mention!

 

Today’s program was Ben Rodriguez from District 128, who is in charge of the District’s Career Preparedness Program. He is working to prepare students for college and career readiness. His group tries to answer 4 questions for students: what, why, how and opportunities.

What is to keep students ready so they are informed, prepared, and empowered for their post-secondary life. They do individual planning and try to develop skills for the marketplace. There are 4500 colleges in America. What is the ROI on a college education? Students want to make a difference. What is the best career to do that?

Why is to be more focused in student prep. The Illinois Daring Mission requires a strategic plan for each student. Look at all opportunities. Honor local efforts.

How is a 3-phase plan. 1. Develop an individual plan as the student enters high school. 2. Exploration of paths and careers. 3. Students can earn a Pathway Endorsement. This endorsement appears on their diploma and says they are prepared for a particular pathway. Students reach benchmarks at each grade level. They go on field trips to worksites, do job shadowing, internships and listening to guest speakers. This sets students apart. Students can change career paths if they find a path is not for them.  

Opportunities to connect with District 128 consist of helping conduct mock interviews. Become a business advisor and conduct meetings with students. Participate in an internship program. Give worksite tours. What will set students apart?
