Program:
Elizabeth Martin of 12 Oaks Foundation, said the organization started in 2010 by Steve and Julie Huff after the passing of their 13 year old son Matt from cancer.  This charitable organization was initiated to help remaining siblings who suffer from the loss of their brother or sister.  They provide grants of $500 per child in Illinois and Wisconsin for medical bills or support programs.  Over $55,000 was gifted last year.  Elizabeth said people are afraid to ask for monetary help, and siblings feel guilty they are healthy.  Their mission is to support families and response to a request is normally only a week.  They offer various programs such as Hoops for Hope conducted at Grayslake HS on March 17/18.  They need about 100 volunteers to help at concessions or sign in, working in 3 hour shifts.  Another program is Matt’s Mile held at Prairie Crossing with 10K, 5K, and 1K races for children.  They are looking to get more people involved and donations to their cause Libertyville HS Poms generated $1,000 for the cause.  This program is supported by Rustoleum Corporation who provides funds and in-kind marketing.
