President Richard Schoeneman opened this week’s meeting with a pledge and a prayer, but unfortunately we did not have a songmeister to fill our souls with music.

 

Our District Governor, Kevin Stevens joined us for breakfast this week.

 

Tom Gore bragged that his five year old granddaughter has already learned more Spanish in preschool than he knows. Muy Buena! 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Tom Zengeler had a birthday this week, but he barely looks any older than he did last week.

 

Save the dates on October 2 and October 9, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for our North Shore Wine Festival at Main Street Social. There will be a maximum of 125 attendees at each session.

 

 

On Thursday evening this week, July 29, we will be playing Bocce ball between 5:30 - 7:00 at  Century Park in Vernon Hills.  Contact Riche Mittelman for details.

 

Next month we will be giving out checks to a total of thirty-one charities at our morning meetings on August 11th, 18th and 25^th.

 

The American Red Cross is asking our club to support blood drives they will be holding on August 24^th and 25^th.

 

September 29 will be a fifth Wednesday, and in lieu of a morning meeting, we will be holding a packing event at Feed My Starving Children that evening, followed by a social gathering.

 

This week the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club admitted Danny Caldwell as our latest member. Danny owns Nirvana in Vernon Hills a restaurant and wine shop. He grew up in Gurnee, and after college tried living for a while in a warmer climate, but he found himself unable to stay away from our beautiful part of the country.    

 

Due to the absence of our designated Fun & Frolics chair this week, Richard Schoeneman ran an abbreviated event with a quiz on some of our members’ accomplishments.

 

Our Sergeant at Arms wanted to go on record that he is committed to wheeling Steve Risley twice, for shirking both his Fun & Frolics and his Bingo responsibilities. I suspect that such a promised fate might scare a lesser man into laying low for a while, but knowing Steve, I think we can all look forward to his showing up next week to face the consequences of his actions.

 

John McDonald had to pay $10.00 as punishment for his crime of letting his phone ring during the meeting, which our regular readers might recall, happened two weeks ago as well.  I am happy for John that he has so many friends, but maybe it would be better for his wallet, if he hung out more often with folks, who do not get up so early in the morning.   

 

 

Our speaker this week was Patricia Bleck. Ms. Bleck is a longtime member of the Libertyville Sunrise Rotary Club, as well as the owner of Bleck Consulting, which provides help to businesses on social media advertising and business writing. Her topic was our club’s communication efforts.

 

The Libertyville Sunrise Rotary has two websites which Rob Likus manages.  We have the main club website, and we have a fundraising website.  The websites are considered static assets, because they are not updated that often.  Our main website though has a widget, which links it to our Facebook pages, and since we update the Facebook pages frequently, this feature gives us the visibility on the web which comes with frequent new materials.

 

Our website gives some coverage to Rotary International projects, and this information helps get out the message that we are part of a larger organization with many accomplishments.  We also post information on all of our speakers, which adds to the attractiveness of speaking before our club, since it contributes to the presenter’s internet presence.

 

We are the owner of our website, but our Facebook pages are owned by Facebook.  Facebook pagers though give us the advantage of being able to carry on two way conversations with our readers.

 

The club also does press releases, which are handled by Brad Gutzler.

 

One way club members can help with the communication efforts is to pass on links and communications to your friends and family.

 

Richard Babjak attempted to win our progressive pot of $798.00 with 28 card left.  But Alas! Alas! He only pulled the five of clubs.  Greg Hill then won the weekly prize of $27.00
