BULLETIN – August 23, 2023

President Rich Babjak rang the bell and called on Kim Smith to give the pledge. Jeff Harger led us in prayer, and Dennis Kratohwil helped us through “Jingle Bells” in hopes of getting cooler weather.

 

-Bill Tararnowski and his wife just returned from a trip to Iceland and Ireland. His daughter Claire interned at Bell Helicopter in Ft. Worth and was offered a job.

 

-Dennis Kratohwil came back alive from a canoe trip in Wisconsin!

 

-Tom Gore served as a Marshall at the BMW golf tournament. On the 606-yard 15^th hole he watched Jon Rahm hit a driver off the fairway onto the green!

 

-Rich Babjak’s daughter got married in England last weekend.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

-Next week is the 5^th Wednesday of the month. There will be no morning meeting. We will meet at Joyful Gourmet in Libertyville in the evening.

 

-Our next service project is September 9^th from 9 to 12 with the Community Partners for Housing. Contact Patricia Bleck to sign up.

-The Mundelein Tool Library thanked us for our grant.

 

Doug Fendon filled in for Greg Hill and gave us a quiz on Zip codes.

 

Today’s program was fundraiser event chairman Howard Jaffe. The Club has 2 foundations that we support. The Rotary International Foundation and our Club Foundation. Our contributions to the Rotary Foundation determine our District Designated Funds. The DDF goes toward scholarships and matching international grants. Our Club Foundation is primarily funded by our annual fundraiser and goes to the local charities we support. This year’s fundraiser will be a repeat of our successful “Second City” fundraiser which raised over $100k.

 

The event will be staged on March 8, 2024, at Libertyville High School. We will have a year-long sponsorship program. Sponsors will be provided advertising, marketing, and promotional opportunities in exchange for a higher contribution. Sponsorships range in price from $2,500 to$15,000. There will be contact materials to send out to our contact lists.

 

 Funds will also be raised with ticket sales, contributions, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. Last year Rachel Dratch did a promo video for us. We are hoping to get Steve Carrell to do one this year. If anyone has a contact to Steve that would be great! We hope to increase our exposure on social media platforms. Patricia Bleck will be working on that. We will be promoting the event to our centers of influence. Tom Miller is working on a new system (One Cause) for ticket sales and auction items.

 

We won’t have a paddle raise this year. In years past the raise has contributed $20k to $30k in donations. Please consider donating to our Foundation to fill the gap. We can accept checks and there will be a place on the One Cause system when it is turned on. The next 6 weeks we will focus on sponsors. A brochure will be going out.
